AVIS DE DÉCÈS
Gary Russell Brown
16 mars 1946 – 15 octobre 2020
Gary Russell Brown, son of the late H. Russell and Ethel Doyle Brown, died Thursday October 15, 2020.
A native son, born in 1946, he received his Associate’s degree from Cape Cod Community College and his BA in Political Science from Boston State Teachers College. A member of the 82nd Airborne, he was awarded the Bronze Star during his tour in Vietnam. A member of the VFW, American Legion and Cape Cod Salties, Gary worked tirelessly for our veterans and the protection of his beloved Cape Cod. He was proud of the work accomplished during his tenure on the Barnstable Town Council. An avid fisherman, Capt. Brown was always quick with a joke and more thrilled with a buddy’s prize catch than his own. Predeceased by his parents, sisters Virginia Mycock and Barbara Ducharme and brother Charles, he is survived by his wife Irene, children Jeanne (Tony) Ciliberto, Barbara Komenda, Wendy Brooks, Priscilla (Paul) Millifollie, and H. Russell II, sisters Shirley Lawry, and Beverly LaFlamboy, six grandchildren and many loved nieces, nephews and cousins.
Gary believed every one he met was a friend and potential fishing buddy. A memorial service will be planned for the spring. To that end, he wished all FAIRWINDS and TIGHT LINES.

When I first met Gary a lot of years ago, my first thought was, “What a great guy”. I always looked forward to seeing him and hearing his take on all things Hyannis, Barnstable, Cape Cod and Nantucket Sound. He was an incredible source of local knowledge and always more than willing to share it. He was certainly one of a kind and I will especially miss seeing him at Thanksgiving with his Turkey Hat on.
Irene and all the Browns are in my thoughts. RIP Capt. Gary 🙏🏻

Had some crazy times wetting a line with Gary over the years. Full of life. Always fun. A forever smile on his face. A friend to everyone. He taught me much about his beloved Cape Cod and even how to catch a fish from time to time. Always a friend. We will miss you Gary....and to the angels on high....get ready for some crazy times!!
Tight lines my friend.

Capn' Gary,
Although i've only known you (just) 50 years, i know all of us will miss your 'presence' in the town and on the water (when you could get that darn thing started).
My condolences to the Brown family.

As they say, one of a kind! As we all know Gary was one of the Cape Cods great fishermen, a civic leader and one who truly cared about the environment. I will always remember our evening together fishing off of the Horeshoe, we had 48 Blue Fish on board in an 18 foot Lyman when we ran out of gas around 8:30 PM, the next morning a friendly boater towed us into Crosby’s. It was a very long night with just us and the fish, a truly classic fishing experience with Gary. I’ll will never forget him. My memories are with the family.

This is a sad day in this chapter of my life. I send my condolences to the whole Brown family. I loved Gary as I met him and Chuck about the same day in FourSeas. I even loved him as a Yankee Fan but not when they played. Irene if you need any assistance in navigating the VA System and can’t find help please feel free to contact me. My love and prayers to the whole family. Larry Chase

My condolences to the family and friends of Gary. I have known him since early days in Centerville. My Dad always had a fishing boat and Gary spent time as a kid asking him questions and my Dad always took time for him. In my Dads later years Gary would return the favor by bringing Dad a fish or a filet, much appreciated I might add. Happy fishing Gary.

Gary was my dear friend. We worked together at Sports Port 1964-65. His mom gave me all of Gary’s outgrown clothes. We fished together countless times at Sampson’s Island in Osterville with my dad and other Cape Cod Salties. Gary was the kindest and most genuine human. He was a gentleman of the old school. He was my mentor as a young boy in Hyannis. Rest In Peace Gary.

Gary, my friend, see Harry and have "a first of the day", so sorry to hear the news, Irene and family, Gary has been a great friend for so many years and I am blessed to have enjoyed some "memorable" times, I must admit not all legal but that's a minor detail.
We all know he is fishing in heaven and in all probability, with Harry.
Miss you my dear friend.

Gary Brown was my surrogate 'Uncle’.
Always invested, not only in his kids, but also in all of their friends.
Gary was supportive of the Dennis Women's Flag Football League. Inviting us out after the games, but also came to cheer and coach. One time even served as a referee when short handed.
Gary was proud of his children and their accomplishments and equally proud of their closer friends. A true gentleman.
Captain, friend, 'Uncle'.
Thank you for so many cherished memories.
