G. Robert King II, 65, of Barnstable passed away on January 18, 2021 at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston surrounded by his family. Rob was born in Sumter, South Carolina on May 18, 1955 to the late George Robert and Diane (Douglas) King.
He attended school at Tabor Academy in Marion, MA and graduated from The College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, VA. During his time in school, Rob excelled at both wrestling and lacrosse. He was awarded the National Prep School Champion in wrestling while at Tabor Academy and played both sports at the D1 level in college.
Rob grew up sailing out of Sesuit Harbor in East Dennis, where he was a 15th generation Cape Codder. He was a lifelong avid reader who had a ferocious appetite for knowledge. Throughout his life he had several hobbies, ranging from martial arts to hunting, boating and blacksmithing. In the summer, it wasn’t uncommon to find him on the water with his family fishing or being with friends at the Hyannis Yacht Club, where he and his wife, Betty, were members for over a decade. Always a competitor, he loved competing in the local fishing tournaments. His favorite was the Joe Cronin Memorial Bluefish Tournament. In his first year competing, his boat won the Captains Award. More recently, he and Betty split their time between their home in Barnstable Village and their vacation home in Naples, ME.
Rob was a Certified Financial Planner with Baystate Financial in Osterville. His career spanned over 40 years helping clients on the Cape and throughout the country. He loved what he did and cared for each client he worked with as if they were family.
He will live on through his wife, Elizabeth "Betty" King, his daughter Ashley Evancoe and her husband, Kyle, their two sons Brooks and Archer, of Barnstable Village, and his daughter Courtney Arrigg and her husband, David, of Boston. He is also survived by his brother Doug King and his wife, Fay, of Stowe, VT and their three children Zack, Mattison and Morgan King.
A celebration of life will be planned for family and friends when we can safely gather together again, information to be shared at a later date.
In lieu of flowers please consider making a contribution in his name to the Amyloid Research Fund at the Boston University School of Medicine, Massachusetts General Hospital’s Transplant Surgery Center or to a charity of your choice.
