We are mourning the loss of Gerald (Jay) Lopes, Jr II, beloved father, brother, friend, and son. Jay passed away suddenly during the morning hours of Saturday, January 28, 2023, at the age of 42. Born in Falmouth Hospital, Jay was a Cape Cod native with ties to the city of New Bedford. He was a talented, charming, and charismatic person who won over the hearts of many who were proud to call him “friend”.
Jay is survived by his sisters Tinisha Lopes and Ashley Dennis, his brother Corey Lopes, father Gerald Lopes, Sr, son Gerald Lopes, III, and by a large extended family of cousins, aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews. He is predeceased by his loving mother, Carolyn Pina Sheffield, who passed away unexpectedly on May 25, 2022.
Join us in celebrating the life of Jay Lopes, for whom we cared deeply and lost far too soon. A service will be held on Sunday, February 19, 2023 from 10AM-2PM at Doane Beal & Ames Funeral Home, 160 West Main St, Hyannis, MA. A pot-luck reception will be held following the funeral at the Elks Club at 852 Bearses Way, Hyannis, where guests are encouraged to bring an item of food or drink to share.
