

Harvey Herbert Stewart, 88, of Centerville, MA, and formerly of Medford, MA, passed away on July 18, 2017 after a short battle with cancer. Born on December 9, 1928 in Guntersville, Alabama, he was the beloved son of Charles and Ada Stewart, the youngest of ten Stewart children. Besides his loving wife of 63 years, Elisa Stewart of Centerville, MA, he is survived by his two sons, Robert and his wife Nicole Stewart of Medford, MA, and Michael Stewart of San Jose, CA and his two daughters, Christine and her husband Richard Shea of Plymouth, MA and Deborah Stewart of Salem, NH. Harvey is also survived by his loving grandchildren, Brendan Shea, Erin Shea, Ryan Stewart and Ashley Stewart.
Harvey was proud to have served in the US Navy for 24 years, retiring in 1969 as a Chief Petty Officer. He was also very proud of his family background, having grown up in Boaz, Alabama, where has still has several loving nieces and nephews, and is affectionately known to all as "Uncle Spud". Harvey loved the outdoors and was an avid gardner, known to grow "veggies" in his large garden in his summer home in New Hampshire, in addition to his home in Centerville, and give them to his friends and neighbors. He also enjoyed fishing in New Hampshire and golfing with his close group of friends in and around Centerville, MA. Lastly, he was very active in the Senior Center in Hyannis, MA, where he enjoyed gardening, playing pool with his buddies and simply providing a helping hand.
Pride, honor, dignity and respect were his calling cards, along with a dry sense of humor and a selflessness that embodied his life. Harvey will be missed by all who had the privilege to know him.
A burial service will be held at the veterans Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne MA on July 27th at 11:15am. Following the burial there will be a celebration of the life of Harvey Herbert Stewart at the residence of Christine and Richard Shea, 53 Ryecroft, Plymouth MA.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Harvey's name to the Cape Cod Veterans, PO Box 81, Dennis-port, MA 02639.
