

Helen E. Whitney, of Dennis Port, passed quietly on April 22, 2014. Born in Cohoes, NY, in 1925, she was one of 5 children.
She worked as floor manager for Montgomery Ward for 5 years. She then became an operator for the New York Phone Company, and worked there for over 20 years. Upon retiring, she went to work for her husband's plumbing and heating company, managing his office.
Helen was married to John C. Whitney for 64 years, before he passed away in 2012. Her only son, Edward F. Whitney, passed away in 2002. She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Adrian C. Whitney, So. Yarmouth, MA; her brother, Francis Mack, and his wife Marie, Saratoga Springs, NY: grandson, Christopher W. Whitney, and his wife Alexandra., and great grandsons, Jason A. and Lucas G. Whitney, of Ft. Myers, FL. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews throughout the country.
Helen was an avid gardener. She took pride in her azaleas and received many compliments from everyone walking past her house. She also enjoyed ceramics and knitting. Helen always had a kind word for everyone and would go out of her way to help her friends and family. The steady stream of visitors up her walkway each day paid tribute to the high esteem in which she was held by those who knew and loved her.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, May 31, 2014, at the Holy Trinity Church, 245 Main St. (Rt. 28) at 10:00 AM. Relatives and friends are welcome to a visitation at the Doane, Beal & Ames Funeral Home, 260 Main St. (Rt. 28) prior to Mass beginning at 9:00 AM.
