of his beloved wife, Glenda on Saturday, November 1, 2014.
Born on December 8, 1944 in Abington, MA, he was the son of Ernest
Alfred Whitman and the late Marjorie Lillian (Brown) Whitman. He was
a graduate of Barnstable High School.
For more than 30 years, he worked for Com Electric.
Jim enjoyed camping on Sandy Neck and spending winters in Florida with
his wife, Glenda. He was truly a gifted craftsman, building
everything from doll houses to full size sheds and there was almost
nothing that he could not fix.
For more than 20 years, Jim was a volunteer fireman and EMT for the
Centerville Fire Department. He is also currently of the Fort Myers
Beach Moose Lodge 964 and the American Legion Post 274 in Fort Myers
Beach.
Jim was a kind person that devoted a lot of time to helping others.
Being a true family man, he was happiest when he was surround by his
loving family.
He is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Glenda L. Whitman of
Barnstable; his father, Ernest Alfred Whitman of Centerville; his son,
James D. Whitman of Centerville, his daughter, Tricia Kelley and her
husband, Phil of Coconut Creek, FL; his two stepdaughters, Christine
DeBlois and her husband, Robert of West Greenwich, RI, Karen Sullivan
and her husband, Timothy of Amherst, NH; the “two bright shining stars
in his life”, his granddaughters, Molly and Abigail Sullivan of NH;
his brother, Jon Whitman and his wife, Joani of Centerville; his
sisters, Linda Tevlin and her husband, Bob of Seminole, FL, Jill
Kahelin and her husband, Peter of Centerville, Beth Jennings and her
husband, Barry of Largo, FL; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins
and dear friends.
Friends may call from 4-7 pm on Thursday, November 6, 2014 at Doane,
Beal & Ames Funeral Home, 160 West Main Street in Hyannis. A funeral
service will be celebrated at 11 am on Friday, November 7, 2014 at the
funeral home with burial to follow in Mosswood Cemetery in Cotuit.
Jim fought a long, hard battle with cancer for more than 6 ½ years.
Despite his illness, he remained strong for his family and never
complained. He was a kind and gentle man. He did not have a mean
bone in his body. If you were lucky enough to know him, you will
never forget him.
