I took the youth of my church in North Andover to Songtime.
John came to our Sunday evening drive-in church service on the parking lot on Rt. 114 to preach in 1975.
He also came to a parking lot in Chatham when we were starting a new church in 1979.
John preached at the funeral of Gail Griffin (I don't remember her married name) her husband's name was John.
I used to listen to Songtime in my barn early in the morning when I fed our horses and cleaned the stalls.
He was a good man and a blessing to many.

I began volunteering in the mail room when I was 15. John spoke at our church and challenged the youth to bring their friends to a series of meetings. The kid that brought the most kids would get a free week at camp. I did not win, but he invited me to come see where Songtime was produced in Boston at Ruggles Street Baptist. After that visit I was invited back to volunteer.  It wasn't long before I was hired. Gradually I moved from the mailroom to the studio where I helped produce the program.  Loved it.
What a challenge. John was a mentor,  a friend and a person I looked up to. He even taught me how to really drive a car.
John taught me discipline and timing and how to have fun while following Jesus. Thank you,  John.

I followed the ministry of Dr. John DeBrine and Songtime for many years. He had a very fruitful ministry, especially here in New England. I first came to know John when he was pastor at Ruggles Street Baptist Church. He invited me to speak at a Sunday night service and God gave us a wonderful response to the preaching of His Word. John loved the Lord with all His heart and God used him in a great way in reaching people with the good news of the Gospel. His ministry certainly expanded the Kingdom of God. John, you were responsible for many things in my teen years, including being a member of the "Bostones" with Dan Foster.

I grew up listening to John Debrine on Songtime at 7:00 AM sitting at the breakfast table with the aroma of Maxwell House coffee. My grandmother bible in front of her chair and her devotional the Daily Bread. His voice was a comforting sound and soothe my heart and his thoughtful teachings and guests that even a child understood. My children listened to him as well. The morning show was a staple to beginning of our days. I learned a lot of the scriptures and felt the presence of the Holy Spirit. Thank you Mr. Debrine for your service to our Heavenly Father may you enjoy his peace   and all of heaven.. I will keep looking up!

In the beginning I went to Youth time at Park Street  then Tremont Temple.  After graduation I became a counselor and so enjoyed  talking to the kids that came forward.  

Before the time at youth time my older sister took me to Ruggles St church to hear John preach.  it was wonderful. so when I started going to youth time  it was extra special to me,

I have listened off and on thru the years to songtime and still do on 105.9 here in Maine.  Many more memories but won't take the time up.  

Miss being down in Mass but love Maine.  Last time I spoke to John was in Wareham Ma. at Lindleys Resturant after a sunday service,
was so good to see him after all these year,

For many years I listened to John on the way to work. It was such a blessing to listen to a great message .I worked in a middle school with difficult kids and it set me up to start my day with Jesus. After John fell and Adam took over I knew that God would keep the good news on the air.
I am retired and was listening to the Christian radio station  in North Conway NH and songtime came on ..and I heard a great message from John and learned he had just passed away..Amen we will see him in heaven..Joanne Shelton Ct m .Joanne.m@bmail.com

I started listening to John on WPGM radio in Danville Pennsylvania back in around 1974. I lived in Montoursville, Pa. at that time going to high school and I've listened to John on and off throughout the years. I attended the Bible conference in 2014 at the cape codder and I was very impressed with how organized and the great teaching and the great preaching that we heard. I did a video between Sunday School and the church service on Sunday morning there at the cape codder showing my appreciation for John's ministry in my life. He was a wonderful man of God that loved the Lord with all of his heart and always had an encouraging word to say and his Bible teaching came from walking so close to our Lord!! May the Songtime ministry proceed on in years to come underneath Adam and the board and may it still continue to reach the people in New England plus people and other areas of the United States! I cut my teeth spiritually speaking, on Songtime & Dr. John DeBrine, who really was my first pastor & spiritual father before our LORD directed me HIMSELF by the Holy Spirit to a solid bible-based church locally.  A friend directed me to listen to Songtime in January 1979, one year after the LORD revealed and gave grace to give my heart & life to HIM on Jan 1, 1978.  I learned much because i did not grow up with God as my personal Savior,  but loved to sing and Dr. John introduced me to so many hymns, like Fanny Crosby as well as contemporary Christian music like Keith & Steve Green, etc.  Also, because of Dr. John, received many resources to help me grow from Songtime (such as the book of the month club, etc.) to help in my spiritual growth. Most importantly came away after that one hour "church service" filled by our Holy Spirit ready to seize the day with the help of our LORD's guiding Hand.  Many, including my current pastor & his wife have been called home to Jesus in this past year & I believe that they and Dr. John are assisting our LORD to prepare a place for all of us to follow. I know Dr. John is more alive now than ever in the Presence of our LORD beholding HIM "Face to Face" just like the hymn. God bless you, Dr. John & as written many times to you in your retirement years with the benevolence fund, Thank you, and Thank you again from the bottom of my heart! A baby in Christ needs to be fed, discipled, and then grow up to become broken bread and poured out wine to help others, and grow so as "not to groan." Dr. John, thank you for helping us all to grow up in Christ and not to groan. I know your greeting from our LORD had to be, "Welcome home, and well done thou good and faithful servant! Enter into the joy of Your LORD and Master! " My condolences also to Wally, Joe, Pastor Adam and all the rest of the Songtime staff.  We all including me will surely miss Dr. John!

When I became a Christian back in 1998, I searched the radio to find good Bible teaching and God led me to Songtime!  I would listen every day and learned so very much.  Through radio, Dr. John became one of my first Bible teachers!   Through Songtime, I received the Bible Book of the Month and still listen to the corresponding CD when I am reading through a Bible book or teaching Middle School girls in Sunday School.  Words just cannot express how much Dr. John means to me.  I'm sure he will be greatly missed by all left here on earth that knew him and/or received his teaching .   It is wonderful to know that Dr. John is now with his Savior, Jesus Christ, even though my heart is sad hearing of his passing.  Thank you for all your ministry, Dr. John.  

I attended Ruggles Street Baptist Church in the late 1950s into the mid 1960s. Pastor John was the preacher and his preaching was powerful and compelling. I remember many a Sunday night as the service was winding down he would shout out, look at the clock at the back of the sanctuary. Right now it reads 8:03. If tonight you should die, maybe on your way home from here, would you know if you would go to Heaven? If not, you can make  that decision before you leave here. He'd ask people to come forward and ask for salvation. It was powerful. I've never forgotten it.



I attended Ruggles Street Baptist Church in the late 60's, as a student at NEBH, and was a member of the college and career group ministry, and was blessed to sit under John's teaching/preaching.

John was an excellent preacher.  And how he loved music!  I think one of his favorite hymns was "How Great Thou Art".  He loved the high notes (remember Sandi Patty!).

What blessed and impressed me so much at that time, was that John knew everyone who came to RSBC, and called us by name.  That is a real talent. 

My husband Bob, (whom I met and married at RSBC) accepted Jesus as Savior under John's preaching. 

In following years, we listened to Songtime almost every morning on the radio.  And we also had the pleasure of visiting John at his home, and met his wonderful, beloved German Shepherd dogs.
 
Praise God for John and his ministry of Songtime, as well as his preaching and teaching in churches and special events.
We know that he entered heaven, hearing Jesus say - Well done, thou good and faithful servant.

When I was a young pastor in North Andover we would take our youth to Songtime at Tremont Temple.  Our church had drive-in church services  in 1976 and John came and preached.  When my wife, Carolyn, and I moved to the South Shore we helped start a church in Chatham using the drive-in services on a grocery store parking lot and John came a preached there as well.  What a blessing and encouragement John was over the years.  He will be missed.

I loved John DeBrine and listened to him for years before my job changed my hours to 7AM, I just tore up the donation I had sitting on the table  to be mailed today. I love him and am happy that he is with the Lord.  Nancy P.

Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints. Pastor John was truly a man of God. I listened to him on Songtime radio every morning on the way to work for over 30 years. Ending his broadcasts with, grow in grace and not groan in disgrace. He will be missed.


When serving at Evangelical Baptist Church John and I had a few great adventures.  Fenway Park, his car breaking down at the Sagamore rotary, being hooked up to the truck riding in the car back to John's house, of course laughing all the way. Then there were some great tennis matches. To be honest, neither one of us were very good.
Best of all was John's faith and love of life. Rest in peace John!

A true warrior. John Debrine faithfullly   served His Lord and Savior for many years.. The Abisamra family
 has memories of his visit to their Worcester home with his beloved dog Tang. His sense of humor was evident at the dinner table. Years later John knew what he was doing when he chose Adam Miller to take over at the helm of Songtime.  We will miss John.
