

Centerville- John “Chip” Hayes, 57 of Centerville, MA, passed away suddenly on August 4, 2014.
John leaves behind his wife Nancy Cotter Hayes of 35 years and daughter Jenny Hayes. John is also survived by his niece, Lauren Cotter and nephew, Andrew Cotter as well as his sister-in-law, Helen DeCoste. He was predeceased by his loving grandparents, John and Catherine Thornton of Scituate, MA as well as his in-laws, Jim and Sue Cotter of Watertown, MA.
Longtime employee of the Cape Cod Times, John also worked as a painting contractor for many years. During his spare time John was a coach for his daughter’s T-ball and soccer teams as well as one of the few “Dance Dads”. When living in Marshfield, John and his wife Nancy volunteered for the Community Christmas organization which was close to their hearts. John made many friends through his various jobs and volunteer positions and will be missed greatly by all.
Hamblin’s Pond in Centerville and the Kancamagus Highway in New Hampshire were a few of John’s favorite spots. Throughout his life he enjoyed fishing, swimming and watching the Red Sox. This past May, John watched his daughter graduate from Emmanuel College and declared it the proudest moment in his life. John is also predeceased by his beloved dog, Sampson, whom he took great joy and comfort in.
Visiting hours will be Tuesday August 19, 2014 from 2:00-4:00pm at Doane, Beal and Ames Funeral Home located at 160 West Main Street, Hyannis, MA. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, August 20, 2014 at Our Lady of Victory Church, 230 South Main Street, Centerville MA.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The Riverview School, 551 Route 6A East Sandwich, MA. in his name.
