

John Emerson Wargin, of Barnstable, passed peacefully into Eternal Life on Wednesday, February 15th with his beloved wife, Terry H. Wargin by his side. Born in Williston, New York, he was the son of the late Emerson and Deloris Wargin. In addition to his wife, he is survived by children Gregory Wargin, Michael Wargin, David Wargin (wife Melissa C. Wargin), Kathleen Sanborn (husband Mike Sanborn), Dennis Wargin and daughter-in-law Melissa B. Wargin.
He had no greater joy in his life than his grandchildren, Lucas Quaglieri, Sydnie Wargin, Seth Wargin, Zachary Sanborn, Abigail Sanborn, John Wargin, Knute Wargin, Neil Wargin and Hugh Wargin. He also has two “adopted” grandchildren Peter and Bo Lynch.
Additionally, he is survived by his brother Charles Wargin and brother-in-law Timothy K. Hogentogler and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife Joann S. Wargin and brother George Wargin.
A Certified Licensed Real Estate Appraiser, Mr. Wargin was the owner of PB&S Appraisal and Marketing Service which closed its doors in February 2016. Prior to this, he was the President of Cray Energy, Inc. Cray Energy Terminals and Energy Mind Systems. He was also the Vice President of Green Mountain Mini Marts and C&O Oil Company. Prior to this, he was Regional Manager in Credit/Finance for Texaco. He also served as a staff member at the US Army Strategic Intelligence School located in Washington, D.C. He also served as a consultant for the Department of Energy Commission on Kerosene Reserves.
Mr. Wargin is the author of Acquisition Strategy for Petroleum Marketers and several articles regarding values and acquisitions of petroleum companies for various industry publications. He was named to Who’s Who In Finance and Industry, twenty first edition.
John served our Country in the United States Army, 7th Infantry Division and was stationed in Korea. He remained active with the Association up until his death. He is also a life long member of the Knights of Columbus, member of the American Society of Appraisers, and a State Certified Member of the Massachusetts Board of Real Estate Appraisers. Additionally he was a member of the Town of Barnstable Board of Assessors.
Another of his passions was politics. He was a special energy advisor to President Reagan and President George Bush. His most recent political adventure was a run for the Barnstable Assembly. With his typical passion, he knocked on more than 4,000 doors in six weeks.
The family will receive visitors on Thursday, February 23, from 3:30 pm to 6:30 pm at Doane, Beal & Ames Funeral Home, 160 W. Main Street, Hyannis. A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, February 24, at 11:00 am at Our Lady of Victory Parish, 230 S. Main Street, Centerville.
