
She was born in Burlington, Iowa, the daughter of the late Clara (Buescher) and Carl Riepe and the wife of the late John F. Desmond. She was a graduate of Boston College and a member of the Boston College Club of Cape Cod and the Harvard Club of Boston.
She was employed by the Federal Bureau of Investigation in several locations and by Haldor Investment Advisors in Boston. In retirement she taught English as a second language and maintained an interest in the Centerville Historical Museum.
Jean is survived by her children Mary Desmond Pinkowish, and her husband Peter, of Larchmont, NY, and Ned Desmond and his wife Joan Frawley Desmond, of Menlo Park, California, as well as her grandchildren: John Desmond and his wife Lainie, Michael Pinkowish, Justine Salisbury and her husband Luke, Joseph Desmond and his wife Anjeli, and Caroline Regan and her husband Neil. Jean also had three great-granddaughters: Gwyneth Margaret, Margaret Claire, and Sloane Ransom, as well as a Salisbury great-grandson whose arrival is imminent.
Jean was the sister of the late Frances McDonald of Hyannis, Doris Riepe, and James Riepe, and the half-sister of Edna Layton of Hyannis and Leroy Timmerman.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Francis Xavier Church at 10 AM on Saturday, March 29, 2025. Burial to follow at St. Francis Xavier Cemetery. Contributions can be made in her memory to the St. Vincent De Paul Food Pantry, 21 Cross Street, Hyannis, Massachusetts, 02601.
