at the age of 82. Beloved husband of Bobbi (Dever) Holubowich and loving father of
Michael J. Holubowich of Cape Cod, Mark D. Holubowich of Gramby, MA and Chrissy
(Holubowich) Knowlton of Centerville MA.
A proud "Townie". Coach loved everything about being born and raised in a special place, where he acquired "street smarts" and developed the necessary "survival skills" living and learning, on the sometimes mean streets of Charlestown. A Loving son of the late "Big Mike The Pollock" and the "Matriarch" of the family, Mary (Aspell) Holubowich. Survived by Sister Michelle Holubowich of Woburn.
Coach idolized and lived for his 4 beautiful grandchildren, Julia Morgan Holubowich of Everett, MA, Dylan Brett Holubowich and Jessica Amber Holubowich, both raised by their amazing Mom, Cindy (Dumais) Holubowich of Gramby, MA. Mikes last grandchild was a very special gift from God and his late-son-in-law Rick Knowlton and his wife Chrissy when they traveled thousands of miles to China to adopt Shea Fei Lin Knowlton. It didn't take long for Shea to rename her new grandparents. Her Grand
ma became LaoLao (Chinese for Maternal Grandma) and her Grandfather became Pa Pa) Mike had a special place in his heart for the "Everett" branch of the family, where his first born granddaughter was raised. Julia was blessed to be brought into this world by one amazing woman, her Mom, Lisa DeGregorio. In a home filled with so much love, caring and Family Values provided by 2 amazing people, (Grand Ma) Jan DeGregorio and (Grand Pa) Peter DeGregorio. Mike respected and truly loved the D's. He had a special place in his heart for Lisa's sons, Peter and Nicky both of Saugus. Mike knew that Julia would be well protected by her big brothers.
Mike leaves quite a string of supporting in-laws and some out-laws behind. He loved the other Dever girls, Judy (Dever) McCarthy of Somerville and Joan (Dever) Walsh and her husband David Walsh of West Peabody, MA; and many nieces all over the state.
Mike enjoyed life to the fullest. He won more than he lost and enjoyed always being in the game. Mike was never embarrassed to admit that the best thing he ever did in life was to marry his best friend, soulmate and the Love of his life Bobbi Dever.
Next to the love of his wife and family, Mike had a very special love for Westfield State College. As the founding father (Coach) of Westfield State Hockey (1974), He cherished the time he spent working alongside a bunch of hardcore hockey players that loved the sport and loved to win as much as he did.
Winning the 1978 ECAC Division III Hockey Championship after just 4 years, with an undefeated season was something that lived in Mike’s heart every day of his life. Little did he know, that 42 yrs after winning the ECAC Championship, he would enter The Westfield State University Athletic Hall Of Fame 2020 along with every member of that 78 championship team.
He gave all he had to his family and friends. He tried his best. He emptied the tank leaving nothing out on the ice. He's now ready to move on to a better place.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, May 27th at 11 a.m. at Doane Beal & Ames Funeral Home, Hyannis. To leave an online condolence, please visit www.doanebealameshyannis.com
