Morton Sable
February 22, 1922 – March 22, 2014
Morton Sable died peacefully on March 22, 2014 at Cape Cod Hospital. At 92 years old, he lived his life exactly as he wanted – to the very end. He was married to the love of his life, the beautiful Irene Ruth Sable, for 65 of those years. He was so proud of his three children and their spouses, Rhonda Sable (& Robert Hanson), Bill Sable (& Pam Hacunda) and Elise Ann Udwin, as well as his grandson and wife, Ram Udwin (& Deanna Grasso). He is survived by his sister, Eleanor Jacobs of Atlanta, GA.
Born in Philadelphia to parents Israel and Rose Sable, Mort graduated high school there and later attended both Temple University in Philadelphia and Northeastern University in Boston. He was an Aviation Ordinance Man, First Class in the Navy
during WW II, stationed at Otis Air Force base.
Born a consummate salesman with a quick wit and wry sense of humor, he worked as an Electrical Sales Representative, covering much of the New England area. He later became president of Liberty Electric Supply in Cambridge, MA.
After raising his family in Brookline, MA, Mort moved himself and Irene to Hyannis. They bought their sweet little dream cottage close to the beach and absolutely loved their Cape Cod life for over 30 years. It was their ideal spot for the retirement years. Mort immediately immersed himself in the community. He was an active member of the Hyannis Senior Center, a driver for Meals on Wheels and committed member of the Cape Cod Synagogue. He worked in distribution for the Cape Cod Times and the Nantucket Beacon. His membership in and work with the Masons was very important to him and he was twice past Monarch of the EPAC Grotto. He was an alumni of the West End House in Allston, MA, a member of the Aleppo Shriners of North America and past Commander of Barnstable American Legion Post 206.
Mort played football in high school and in the Navy, was an avid golfer for many years and a life long Red Sox & NE Patriots fan.
He loved to talk, tell bad jokes, dress up in silly costumes and was almost always a source of entertainment in any group. He remained close with many friends from his days in the service and his life in Brookline and was still very active and connected to his brothers in the Masons and the Barnstable VFW. His laughter will be missed by many.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 am on Thursday, March 27, 2014 at the Cape Cod Synagogue, 145 Winter Street in Hyannis. Burial will follow in Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.
Donations in his memory may be made to the Masonic Angel Fund of Fraternal Lodge A.F & A.M., P.O. Box 595 Centerville, MA 02632.
