S. DENNIS- Myron F. Ashley, 94, died peacefully on Monday, December 9, 2019 surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Catherine M. (Gagner) Ashley with whom he shared many years of marriage until her passing in 2012.
Born in Buzzard’s Bay on January 31, 1925, he was a son of the late Isiah and Ruth Ashley. Myron proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army. He spent 24 years working for R. A. Macomber, and then went on to work for the Town of Dennis Highway Department for 18 years. He also spent 30 years volunteering for the Dennis Swap Shop.
Myron played softball all throughout his life, up into his eighties when he belonged to a Senior Citizen’s league. He was a member of the Elks for 22 years.
He is survived and will be deeply missed by his children, George Ashley and his wife Terrey, David Ashley and his wife Elisa, Mark Ashley and his wife Kathi, Toni Ashley and her spouse Anthony Martin, Carol Childs and her husband James, Beverly Frazier, Gail Sanderson and her husband Sandy, Cathy McManus, Ruth Viera and her husband Manuel, and Julie Hannah and her husband Michael.
Myron adored his 56 grandchildren. He shared a special bond with his grandson and special caretaker, Zachary Martin. He is also survived by 47 great grandchildren; and 10 great-great grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, Myron was predeceased by his son, Myron “Mickey” Ashley; and two brothers-in-law, Warren McManus and Ray Frazier.
Myron’s family would like to thank VNA Hospice for the care and compassion they showed him during their visits.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects on Wednesday, December 18th from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Doane Beal & Ames Funeral Home, 160 W. Main St., Hyannis. A graveside service will follow at 1:30 p.m. in MA National Cemetery, Bourne. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Myron’s name to VNA Hospice, 255 Independence Dr, Hyannis, MA 02601.
