Wife, Mother, Grammy, Sister, Friend
On December 29, 2011, the Maguire family, formerly of Medfield, sadly said good-bye to a loving mother and wife, Patricia M. Maguire. Despite her high hopes and positive outlook, Pat unfortunately succumbed to the relentless peritoneal cancer, a rare form of ovarian cancer, after a courageous three-year battle.
She leaves behind her devoted husband, George Maguire, of Sandwich, MA, after more than 46 years of marriage. Pat and George met in 1959 and instantly became high school sweethearts. They shared a wonderful life together, beginning in New York in 1965, moving to New Jersey in 1971, and then finally settling in Medfield, Massachusetts in 1973. Pat and George enjoyed traveling together and exploring new places, including: Florida, Arizona, Nevada, Utah, California, The Carolinas, Georgia, Aruba, Bermuda, London, Amsterdam, and most recently, Italy. Pat was a classic homemaker, known for her delicious recipes, organized lifestyle, perfect party planning, and sociable personality. She will especially be remembered for her love of shopping and her impeccable taste in style and fashion.
Most of her living years were dedicated to raising four children, Kevin Maguire, of Tyngsborough, MA; Dr. Christine Maguire, of Scarborough, ME; Timothy Maguire, of South Berwick, ME; and Mary Beaudoin, of Groton, MA. Pat was a caring mother who fostered our individuality and encouraged us to follow our dreams. Many special memories were created during our summers in Maine and winter visits to sunny Florida. Holidays were very important to our Mom and we will continue our family traditions in her honor.
Over the years, our mother welcomed and embraced new members of our family. She also leaves behind her dearest son-in-law, Bryce Beaudoin; and beloved daughter-in-laws, Kellie Maguire; Kristen Maguire; and Erica Martineau.
Mom was the most proud of being a Grandmother to her six beautiful grandchildren. She is survived by her beloved grandsons Sean Maguire, Quinn Maguire, and Timothy Maguire and her beloved granddaughters Riley Beaudoin, Courtney Beaudoin, and Molly Maguire. All of the grandchildren adore Grammy. She had a distinct way of making each grandchild feel special, loved and appreciated. The grandchildren will always cherish the memories of making pancakes with Grammy, reading Llama Llama books with Grammy and having sleepovers in her bedroom after pizza and a movie.
Aside from her family, Mom spent a lot of her time volunteering for various organizations and social clubs. Over the years, she was actively involved in Bunco, New-in-Town, Five-Star, Medfield Boosters, Girl Scouts, Sandwich Newcomers Club, Sandwich Garden Club, Book Club, and Mahjongg group. She encountered many people through these organizations and developed true friendships as a result.
At the end of her life, it was important for Mom to share her gratitude to her friends who continually supported her fight for her life. Her friends generously delivered meals, offered transportation, brought thoughtful gifts, called, visited and sent uplifting cards and flowers. It warmed her heart to have such loyal friends. Thank you to her dearest longtime friends, Donna S., Linda K., Maureen R., Nancy S., Mary Ann C., and beloved Cape friends, Pat A., Althea B., Jean G., Helen M., Pam M., Barbara M., Kay N., Maureen P., Barbara B., Anne P., Nancy St., Joan V., Phyllis W., Jennie Z., Maureen B., Penny C., Tricia D., Pat H., Beth H., Lorraine J., Vivien K., Annemarie M., Margo M., Pat S., Joanne W., Mary Ann V.
Pat leaves behind her beloved brother Andrew; and beloved sister-in-law, Gail Halcomb of NJ; sister, Susan, of FL; sister-in-law, Mary Grace Ryan of CA; brother-in-law John Maguire and sister-in-law Stephanie Maguire of NJ; and sister-in law Joan Halcomb of PA. Other special family members whom have gone before her include her parents, Victor and Veronica Halcomb; brother, Matthew Halcomb; mother-in-law, Julia Maguire; father-in-law, George Maguire and brother-in-laws, Jack Ryan and Benedict Maguire.
The compassionate care and devotion to our mother from the staff at Dana Farber and Brigham and Women’s Hospital was comforting. We would like to personally thank Dr. Ursula Matulonis and Cathy Earley, R.N., of Dana Farber Cancer Institute, for their dedication to discovering new treatments to conquer ovarian cancer. Also, our deepest gratitude to the very professional, caring friends we have recently met from the Visiting Nurses Association (VNA). They helped our family in so many ways as we prepared for Mom’s final days.
No doubt, all who knew Pat Maguire will remember her fondly. She was a positive spirit who always had a twinkle in her eye and a smile on her face. She was a faithful wife, dedicated mother, supportive sister, loving grandmother, thoughtful friend, and an inspiration to those who knew her. Mom will be greatly missed but she will remain forever in our hearts. We love you Mom, Grammy.
