Peter L. Wood, 53 of Boston MA, died suddenly Wednesday night October 24th 2012 at Cape Cod Hospital. Born May 16th 1959, he was the son of the late Norman E. Wood Sr., and Theresa F. (Monteiro)Wood. He was the youngest of seven siblings; a son first; brother, godson, nephew, cousin, uncle, husband, father, beloved grandfather, and dear friend. Peter was an incredible man with many talents, and dreams. Peter attended Saint Johns Grammar School, and was a graduate of Cathedral High School in Boston. He also attended U-Mass Dartmouth, and soon after was hired as an accountant for Carter & Rice. At the age of 23 he began working for the M.B.T.A. for 26 years up to his retirement. He then relocated residentially to Cape Cod, and continued his occupation driving as a seasoned Nantucket tour guide for Hy-Line, and bus driver for Cape Destinations. His acclaimed talents exploded in the arts on-stage acting, during and throughout his late teens, to his early twenty’s, and music was always in his blood. He was known for his funky charismatic personality, and never forgot to use his voice. He was a former lead singer of the acclaimed local New England musical group Silkwood, a family musical group consisting of originating members including his brothers and daughter. If “Pete” wasn’t working, he was singing, and often would mention, that there was no distinction between the two. Peter had a comedic fun side to him, but also a forever-sincere kindness that defined him as a man who believed that family is the most important thing, and the principle of heritage and legacy should always be preserved, and more importantly... He was truly an all out great man. Who will be forever missed, and always remembered…
Peter was well loved by everyone that knew him; family, friends, and his co-workers. He is survived by his brothers; Norman E. Wood Jr. of Boston, Dwight F. Wood of Boston, Michael R. Wood of Hyannis, Steven B. Wood of Hyannis, and his loving sisters, Marie E. Askew-Lee of Everett, and his beloved late sister Patricia A. Wood-Lawrence of Boston. His mother, Theresa F. (Monteiro) Wood of South Dennis, his wife Kim Gomez of Yarmouth, and his children; Keith R. Wood, Kandice T. Wood, Khery N. Wood, Shaquan D. Robinson, Sean D. Robinson, and his grandchild Aleyah R. Wood. Along with many aunts, uncles, cousins, sister and brother in-laws, nieces, nephews, and many friends. His funeral service will be held on Thursday, Nov. 1, 2012 at 11:00 am in the Doane, Beal & Ames Funeral Home, 160, W. Main St., Hyannis, MA. “Sweet Pete”
The Storm in your life is over and we’ve cried a flood of tears, because you left so suddenly it left us full of fears
Although the dark clouds gathered we waited for you to see the light and when you did crossover,
it gave us such a fright
You gave your life to Jesus a long, long time ago you did good deeds to please the Lord and praised him with delight, and all your might
With you our hearts did open, while you were here with us, we’ve missed you since you left us our hearts we’re deeply crushed
But you left us with sweet memories that melted our despair, you told us you’d be happy now without the
pain, or a care
So to our dear Lord we pray that you keep sweet Pete within your grace and until you call us home with him please keep him free from pain with love and affection…
“Dear One”
We waited til you crossed over to touch the masters’ hand
We did not want to let you go as you are our dear friend
But God promised us
that you’ll be well again
and gave you a helping hand
He sent angels to comfort you
so that you would not be afraid
And he made it clear to us all
that our memories shall always be there
So with you goes our love and prayers
Our good times shared with you
We promise that we will always care
and share our love for you
The Spirit left his body and ascended to the sky
He took with him his music and such great humor
That made us laugh and cry
The songs
he sang were warm and true
So filled with his great love
The words were deep and meaningful
His voice so passionate like a dove
You’d hear him do a riff or too and crescendo to the stars above as he prepared to complete his work that God sent him here to do the journey that was his to fulfill was done with such great pride so with him went our hearts and dreams but our memories of you will still survive
Though our hearts are very heavy, broken with despair
We are satisfied that you’ll have no more pains or cares as you sing to God above
So with you dear one we send our love as God has called you home we will not weep we will rejoice when the Lord welcomes you home….
Peter Wood AKA Optimus Prime
A Man who wore many hats and has many family and friends
To know Peter was to love him his deeply rich voice was not only melodic but also denoted a great passion for the words he sang or spoke
A family man of extraordinary compassion, a hard worker always sharing with his loved ones whether cooking or providing for their needs going above and beyond the call of duty
Peter was very popular with all of the kids and very accepting of them all They loved him and just like all of us they always inquired about Uncle Peters whereabouts and sought him out they knew that they were in for a great time and would have a lot of fun
When on the cape back in the day him and I would share our love for apple fritters and Sunday morning Jazz and we would have many great debates over whatever subject came up. I will miss my brother-in-law, my buddy, my friend and confidant
A star has surely left us
but he will forever have a place in my heart
His godson, Alex, dubbed him Optimus Prime,
