Philip Andrew "Andy" Fingado, of Centerville, aged 57, passed away peacefully on May 22nd, after fighting a courageous battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his beloved wife, Christine Kelly, his children, Michael, Johnathan, and Julianne, and numerous extended family members. Those who knew him agree that the world lost a truly good man when Andy departed. This sentiment is widely shared, as many recognize how rare individuals like him are. He was a deeply compassionate individual who dedicated countless hours to serving his family, friends, fellow veterans, wildlife, and the wider community. His life's mission was clear and unwavering: to leave this world better than he found it, a goal he achieved with remarkable success.
Born in Maryland, Andy moved to Cape Cod during his childhood and graduated from Barnstable High School. He attended UMass Amherst and earned a Bachelor's degree in History. Upon graduation, he was commissioned as an officer in the U.S. Marine Corps, serving nine years and earning rank as a Captain. For the last 15 years, Andy has been employed by ACE Conwell Home Center in Provincetown, where he forged numerous friendships and made significant contributions to the business and local community. In conjunction with a demanding career in retail, he earned his master's degree, in Organizational Management.
Andy's commitment to service extended beyond his professional life; he volunteered tirelessly for various organizations, notably the Cape Wildlife Center, and as Commander of the Provincetown VFW Post 3152 (2013-16). A particularly poignant expression of his gratitude for fellow veterans was his tradition of hosting birthday celebrations for all military branches, honoring their sacrifices and service to the nation.
Passionate about fitness, Andy shared his enthusiasm by teaching classes at YMCA Cape Cod. He embraced physical challenges with gusto, frequently participating in obstacle course races, bike races, and road races, often encouraging his family to join him.
Andy Fingado is survived by his wife, Christine Kelly; his children, Michael, Johnathan, Julianne; his beloved pups, Lexi and Gizmo; his sisters, Amelia Araujo and Sarah Simonelli; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends whose lives he touched immeasurably. His legacy of kindness, service, and humor will be treasured by all who had the privilege of knowing him, ensuring that his impact on the community and future generations endures. Family and friends will gather in Hyannis, MA, on Thursday, June 27th, to pay respects from 8:30 am to 10:30 am at Doane Beal & Ames, located at 160 West Main Street, followed by a celebration of life at 10:30 am. In lieu of flowers, donations should be made to Cape Wildlife Center of Barnstable or Wild Care of Eastham.
