Centerville resident Richard E. Dooley (Dick) age 90 passed away on July 30, 2024 beside his wife Barbara. Born in River Forest, IL to William and Mary Hopkinson Dooley, Dick was preceded in death by his four siblings: sisters Marie Ballschmider of Sheboygan, WI, Barbara Dooley of River Forest, IL, Josephine Blaber of Oak Park, IL and brother William Dooley, Jr. of Palm Springs, CA. He was married to Barbara Brennan Dooley for 37 years.
Dick is survived by his 5 children Gregory (Mary) Dooley of WI, Matthew Dooley of OK, Beth (John) La Fleur of IL, Justin (Maralyn) Dooley of AZ, and Martin Dooley of AZ., his eight grandchildren Conor, Patrick, James, Liam, Grace, Gemma, Cole, Wyatt and his great grandchildren Kira, Flynn, Jack and Theresa
Dick was a cherished and respected father and grandfather, immensely proud of his family. Born and raised in River Forest, Illinois, he attended St. Luke’s School, and Fenwick High School in1952. He graduated from the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester in 1956 where he was a member of the Purple Key Honorary Society and voted Man of the Year in 1956. He went on to obtain an MBA from the University of Chicago in 1965. Throughout his life he lived in Oak Park IL, Philadelphia, PA, Deerfield, IL, Riverwoods, IL and since 2004 in Centerville, MA.
He took great pride and enjoyment in his work. He worked as a Vice President at the First National Bank of Chicago, teacher at the Graduate School of Business at Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT), and Senior Vice President at Colonial Penn Group, Inc. in Philadelphia, before starting his own consulting and counseling company, The Dooley Group in 1973. His company thrived until 2018, providing counsel on management and leadership development to clients and leading seminars and developmental programs. As a Founder and Honorary Lifetime member of Society for Information Management (SIM), he received numerous awards for his lifetime contributions. A leader in the information technology industry, Dick was known for his keen intellect, and for creating and holding hundreds of Leadership Learning Forums. He was easily recognizable by the black eye patch he wore.
A tribute from a friend highlights Dick's impact: “There is a special place in heaven for one who has helped so many, contributed so much, and literally pushed people to be the best version of themselves continuously”. He leaves a considerable legacy of those he mentored and helped grow. He will be greatly missed.

A Memorial Mass will take place at Our Lady of Victory in Centerville, MA on Friday, September 13, 2024 at 11 AM.
