HYANNIS - Robert W. “Bob” McGorty Sr. 72, of Arnold, PA formerly of Hyannis, MA and Hudson, MA., Passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2014, in Monroeville, PA. Born on March 6, 1942, in Marlboro, MA, he was the son of the late Eva (Fortin McGorty) White and John McGorty. He is survived by his wife and best friend, Jacqueline of Arnold, a daughter, Caryn Davidson of Arnold, two sons, Robert W. (Kim) McGorty II, of Taunton, MA., and Timothy J. McGorty of Arnold, PA., three sisters, Marilyn Boudreau, of CO, Carol (Roy) Dudley, of Hudson, MA, and Maureen (Landry) Carey, of Marlboro; a sister-in law Peggy McGorty of Marlboro. Papa to 8 grandchildren, Staci (Chris Manchuk) of Harwich, MA, Stephani Kendrick of Woodstock, NH, Jennifer (Chad) Volk and Christopher Davidson both of Arnold, PA, Ryan P. (Ashley) McGorty, U.S. Army of Taunton, MA, Camden McGorty of Taunton, MA, Meaghan and Dyllan McGorty of Linesville, PA and “ Little Papa” to 2 great-grandchildren Cassadi and Tyler Manchuk of Harwich, MA; also survived by many nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by his brother, J. Richard McGorty; his sister, Eliose Wager; stepfather, Jack White. Bob graduated from Marian High School, in Framingham, MA class of “60” and in 1960 he joined the Army National Guard, was discharged in 1966 as a Staff sergeant. During this time he joined the Hudson, MA Fire Dept. he then moved to Cape Cod in 1969, was appointed a Permanent firefighter of the Hyannis Fire Department in 1971, was a Charter Member of the IAFF Local 2172 and he retired after 36 years of service. He was also a life member of the Hyannis Elks No. 1549. Bob was of the Catholic faith and a member of Mt. St. Peter Parish in New Kensington, PA. He very much enjoyed watching the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots. He was a great man, dedicated to his family; he loved his wife, children and grandchildren like no other. He will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved him. . Friends may call from 5-8 pm on Thursday, October 16, 2014 at Doane, Beal & Ames Funeral Home, 160 West Main Street, Hyannis, MA 02601. A funeral service in the funeral home will follow at 8 pm. Burial in St. John’s Cemetery in Lancaster, MA will take place on Friday, October 17, 2014 at 11 am.
