Robert Stover Rogers, Jr., passed away peacefully on October 11, 2016 at Mayflower Place Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, West Yarmouth, MA where he has resided since 2012. He happily participated each day in activities, musical events and even developed a hobby in painting. Bob was known to residential community as a guy with a dry quick wit, beautiful blue eyes, bright smile and an always cheery demeanor who liked to laugh and make others laugh too. People would always say to him ‘if I only had those long eye lashes’ which he would always reply “I’ll sell them to you for a $1.00 an eyelash” and laugh.
Born on December 31, 1936 in Somerville, MA where he spent his childhood and adult life residing with his family. He joined the USAF (MGST) in 1954 and later transitioned into the USNG where enjoyed a career as a Flight Engineer until retirement in 1996. Bob was a proud family member of the 101st Fighter Squadron, Otis National Air Base Cape Cod. He was awarded recognition for his contributions as an Instructor, Coach & Member of the 102 FIW Marksmanship Team as where he traveled nationally and internationally competing in this Sport. He was highly decorated, nationally ranked competitor who was known for his passion, precision and respect for firearms. Also a well-respected and known Instructor, Coach, Competitor and Member of the Andover Sportsmen’s Club, Andover, MA as well as the Massachusetts Rifle Association, Woburn, MA where he was a Director on the Board.
A retired 29-year employee of the MBTA Union Local 453 which he retired as Safety Inspector – Heavy Rail.
His life will be eternalized through our fond memories of his blue jeans, lemonade, lemon and raspberry squares, Coke~Cola, Junior Mints, his daily chocolate ice cream with chocolate sauce, Country Music, History Channel, Trivia games, aviation, love for dogs especially his visits with Coco, sitting at the beach watching the boats pass by, weekly concerts at Parker River Beach, fishing, USAF memories and his fondness for firearms.
He was the beloved husband of the late Joan M. (Landry) and survived by his loving and committed daughter Donna M. Rogers and her husband Bob Corcoran of Centerville, his son Robert F. Rogers and his late wife Susan (Brodner) of Wilmington as well as 3 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Also survived by his sister Ann Peddle and husband Bob of St Petersburg, FL.
The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to the devoted staff of the Mayflower Place Nursing & Rehabilitation Center for the loving care they provided to Bob. Special thanks you to Gerry DeJoie for her friendship over the years.
A visitation will be held from 9:00 AM to 10:30 AM on Monday, Oct 17 at the Doane, Beal & Ames Funeral Home, 160 West Main St., Hyannis. An 11:00 AM service to follow at Our Lady of Victory, Centerville and 1:30 PM Interment MA National Cemetery, Bourne, MA.
