

Centerville – Virginia Kolenik, 83, passed away at home on Sept. 8, 2010, surrounded by her family. She was predeceased by her husband of 49 years John T. Kolenik.
Virginia was born in Brooklyn, NY. She was the daughter of Eugene and Ann Kennedy. She was educated at the Dominican Commercial School, and graduated in 1945. She resided in Roslyn Heights, NY, and Centerville, MA.
She worked as an administrator at the Sun Harbor Manor Rehabilitation and Nursing Facility, retiring in 1996.
Virginia spent her lifetime devoted to her volunteer work. She was a naturalist all her life, enjoying the outdoors and the simpler things in life. When she wasn’t volunteering her time, she enjoyed traveling, and sports. Virginia was dedicated to being a lifelong learner. She had strong beliefs and was a devout Roman Catholic.
Virginia is survived by; her daughters Barbara Balaban and Carol Kolenik; sons, Christopher and John Mark Kolenik; she also had 7 loving grandchildren; Danny, Sam, Calvin, Aidan, Maeve, Brendan, and Kiera; two nieces; Kathleen Olson and Mary Raleigh.
Visiting hours will be on Monday, Sept. 13, 2010 from 4p-8p at Doane Beal & Ames Funeral Home, 160 W. Main Street, Hyannis, MA. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10am, Tues. Sept. 14 at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church, Centerville, MA. Burial will follow at Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne, MA. A service will also take place at St. Mary’s Church in Roslyn, NY, which will be announced at a later date.
