

Bill was born October 22nd, 1947 in Boston, Massachusetts. He was the son of the late Marjorie (Crocker) Handy and late William H Lewis Jr. He was a graduate of both Tabor Academy and the University of Massachusetts Amherst. From early childhood he was a resident of Barnstable, always remaining a resident of Cape Cod.
Bill was a loving father to his three children, who will deeply miss him. By profession Bill was a landscape architect. He had a life-long interest in and love of nature. He left a lasting fingerprint across The Cape where his landscape designs came to life and are still enjoyed by many. He spent most of his time outdoors enjoying the gifts of Mother Nature. He also enjoyed many outdoor activities such as hunting, fishing, boating and gardening. He could often be found in Barnstable Harbor enjoying time with family and friends. Most of all Bill loved spending time with family. He was active in the community serving as Water Commissioner for the Town of Barnstable for multiple terms. He also took great pride in preserving beautiful Cape Cod. He headed many erosion control and conservation efforts which helped to ensure the future of some of the most cherished places on Cape Cod.
Bill is survived by his daughter Whitney A Fernandes and her husband Justin of Centerville; his sons Hunter G Lewis and Wyatt H Lewis both of West Barnstable; three sisters Sally L Patrick of Lexington, Heather H Green of Barnstable and Lisa Standish of Kingfield, ME. He also has an extensive extended family including in-laws, cousins, nieces and nephews all of whom he adored. He also leaves behind some cherished friends who always had a special place in his heart.
