Born June 24, 1923 to Osias and Beatrice Chicoine in Woonsocket, RI, Yvette was raised in Woonsocket where she graduated from St. Claire High School. Soon after she was married, she and her husband Leo moved to Cape Cod, where they raised their family in the Town of Barnstable. Later, the couple settled in Mashpee.
Yvette’s work history includes Guertin’s Jewelers (Hyannis), the Dolphin Restaurant (Barnstable), and the Barnstable County Registry of Deeds, where she worked for seventeen years until her retirement in 1993. Over the years, she served as a volunteer for MADD (Mothers Against Drunk Driving), the Cape Cancer Thrift Shop in Barnstable, and the Friends of Mashpee Council on Aging Thrift Shop. She was a faithful member of Our Lady of Victory Parish in Centerville.
Yvette was all about family. She loved having grandchildren and great-grandchildren visit and enjoyed cooking and baking for crowds, especially during the holidays. Well-respected and loved by family and friends, she lived a full, active life.
She was pre-deceased by her husband of 62 years, Leo W. Gregoire, her daughter Suzanne C. Shaughnessy, her brother Normand Chicoine, and her sister Constance Sak.
She leaves behind five children and their spouses: Clarice G. James and husband David (Hudson, NH), Frank G. Gregoire and wife Linda (Yarmouth Port, MA), Leo C. Gregoire and wife Priscilla (Barnstable, MA), Marc R. Gregoire (Mashpee, MA), David G. Gregoire and wife Kristen (Bourne, MA), and former daughter-in-law, Kelly Gregoire (Mashpee, MA), who helped care for Yvette so she could remain at home during the last few years of her life.
Yvette was called “Memere” by 18 grandchildren and their families. Suzanne’s four: Kelly Shaughnessy, Todd Shaughnessy, Tracy Shaughnessy, and Jonathan Shaughnessy; Clarice’s three: Christopher MacEacheron, Erin Hennessey, and Darby MacEacheron; Frank’s three: Rhian Anthony, Ashley Granger, and Mason Gregoire; Leo’s two: Torey Gregoire and Jacqueline Teixeira; Marc’s three: Ian Gregoire, Jared Gregoire-Stenner, and Emily Gregoire; and David’s three: Nicole Gregoire, Joshua Setterland, and Zachery Gregoire. She was also “Grand-memere” to 22 great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her brother Francis Chicoine (Port St. Lucie, FL) and many nieces and nephews.
A funeral Mass will be held at 11:30 am on Saturday, December 7, 2019 at Our Lady of Victory Parish, 230 S. Main Street, Centerville, MA. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Cape Cod Hospice Foundation, P.O. Box 370, Hyannis, MA 02601.
