Agnes “Agie” L. McCurry, 90, of Independence, MO, went to heaven to be with her Lord and Savior on March 5, 2022. She was born September 30, 1931, to Ernest and Bertha (Kaiser) Wagner. She was the fifth of eight children, born and raised on a farm in Imperial, NE. Agie graduated from Chase County High School. Music was an important part of her entire life. She sang in school and church choirs and began playing the piano and organ for church services at age 15. Agie was very involved in the Restored Gospel of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints since her baptism in 1955. Playing the organ for church services, serving as women’s leader, girls’ youth leader, and support for her husband Bill as pastor were among her great joys and contributions.
As a well-recognized musician, she frequently was requested to play for weddings, funerals, and special events. She also shared that gift by teaching lessons to many students. And playing her piano and organ in her home was a regular part of her life. She was very loving, happy, and hard-working, and her family and church were very dear to her heart.
Book-keeping was her occupation throughout her adult life as well as serving as a Volunteer EMT at their local Fire Department. After moving to Independence, MO, in 1977, she served in multiple capacities while working beside her husband Bill who managed the CO-OP Food Fair. Following their retirement, they worked together as volunteers at voting polls and serving the homeless at Lunch Partners.
Agnes was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest and Bertha Wagner; brother Norman (Dorothy) Wagner; sisters Dorothy (Don) Hayes, Evelyn (Don) Reed, Norma Hopkins; Betty (Jack) Todd; brother-in-law Ron Meininger; son-in-law Kerby Dowhower; and grandson Jacob Dowhower.
