Barry Philip Gerischer was born and raised in Davenport, Iowa, and passed away peacefully from natural causes on January 17, 2026, in Kansas City, Missouri, where he lived with his daughter. He was 77 years old.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Deborah, who passed away last July. Barry was a highly decorated Vietnam War veteran who proudly volunteered for 2 tours in Vietnam in the US Army, retiring as a Major. His service was marked by exceptional courage, leadership, sacrifice, and repeated combat flying. He received the Distinguished Flying Cross, 2 Bronze Stars, Purple Heart, Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal - 74th award, and 2 Army Commendation Medals, along with many other heroic awards. His military career took his family across the country, shaping a life of resilience, adaptability, and service.
Barry was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend. His life was defined by service to his country, love for his family, and steadfast strength. He will be remembered with honor, gratitude, and deep affection by all who knew him.
Barry is survived by his 3 children: Daughter, Becky/Lio ILOILO of Independence, MO. Sons, Erik/Meagan Gerischer, and Aaron/Meredith Gerischer of Illinois. He has 13 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings, Mike Gerischer, Walt Gerischer, and Juanita Grandy.
