Dennis Ray Showman

Dennis was born in Weaubleau, Missouri, on July 15, 1946, to Ray Showman and Januitta (Nita) Bough

Showman. He grew up in Independence, Mo, graduating from Van Horn High School in 1965. He married his high school sweetheart, Jeanne Greble, on August 28, 1965. He joined the Air Force, and was stationed in Del Rio, Texas, where their two children were born; daughter, Gina Marie, born Feb. 11, 1968, and son, Dennis Ray II, born on July 21, 1969. After moving back to Missouri in 1973, he went to work with his dad & brother, as a roofer.

Dennis loved to talk, and he never met a stranger. He frequently hung out with the guys at Jones Auto Services. He enjoyed bowling, and was in many different leagues over the years. He was an avid fisherman for many years, fishing many local lakes, with his son-in-law, Brent, and the grandson’s, and taking several fishing trips to Lake Fork with Brent, and their fishing buddy’s. He talked/laughed about those fishing trips for years. Dennis also enjoyed deer hunting every fall with grandson’s, Duston and Braxton. Once retired, he and Jeanne enjoyed traveling, taking many trips. He especially loved their yearly trips with their beloved grandkids. One of his favorite trips was when they took grandkids, Ashlee & Duston, to Washington, D.C, to visit Uncle Denny, and Uncle Lance. Dennis’s pride and joy were his grandkids; Ashlee, Duston, Braxton, Ethon, Jeremy, and Autumn. He loved being a grandpa, from day one, when granddaughter, Ashlee Marie, was born. He was very actively involved in their everyday lives, and was very close to all of them. In addition, the grandkids adored him. (As Ashlee has said, “he was not just a grandpa, he was a second dad.” Duston has said, “he was my best friend”.) He is greatly missed by his family, which loved him so very dearly.

Dennis was preceded in death by his father, mother, and brother. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Jeanne; daughter, Gina Ward (Brent); son, Dennis Showman II (Lance); grandchildren; Ashlee Bourn (Jeremy), Duston Ward (Autumn), Braxton Ward, & Ethon Ward, and great grandchildren; Talon Bourn, Braylon Bourn, Logan Bourn, Uriah Bourn, Mia Bourn, Taylor Ward, Wesley Ward, & Lilly Ward.

A memorial service and military honors for Dennis will be held Saturday, March 26, 2022 at 2:00 PM, Newcomer's Noland Road Chapel, 509 S Noland RD, Independence, Missouri 64050.
