Mary C. McDaniels

Mary Catherine McDaniels (Petitt) died peacefully on October 23, 2017 at the age of 85. Mary is survived by her children Kim McDaniels, Kay (Jeff) Hanes and Kelly (Carl) Weaver and her four grandchildren Evan (Jason) Stokes and Pete (Lyndse) Hanes, Isaac Albrecht-Weaver, Sureima Weaver. She is preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, James R McDaniels. Mary was born on March 25, 1932 in Kansas City, MO to Harry and Ethel Petitt. She graduated from East High School in 1950. She married James “Jim” R McDaniels of Independence, in 1952. After moving to Independence, Mary and Jim welcomed 3 daughters and spent the next 30 years there. In 1982 Jim was transferred to Casper, WY where they spent the next 10 years. In 1992 they moved to Houston, TX where they lived 2 years before moving back to Independence. Mary was always passionate about politics and treasured her work of 20 plus years at the Jackson County Election Board. She loved her children and grandchildren and enjoyed celebrating their accomplishments. Visitation service, Monday, October 30, 2017, 5pm to 7pm, Newcomers Noland Road Chapel. Private burial. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Mary's life. Donations may be made to the charity of choice in Mary’s memory.
