

Walter was born in Arcadia, Kansas to Ernest and Ina Swezey. After a brief move to Detroit, Michigan, he moved back to Arcadia where he would meet his wife of 71 years, Norma Swezey. Walter and Norma were married on December 16, 1950. They moved to Kansas City, Missouri where Walter worked for Western Electric (now AT&T), for 36 years until his retirement. Walter was a talented artist and enjoyed sketching in his book. He was an avid reader, he loved golf, had a love of western movies and enjoyed music by Jim
Reeves, Eddie Arnold and George Jones. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family.
Walter was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. His love for his family was his focus in life. He will be remembered for his amazing wit and sense of humor and most of all, for his kind and loving spirit.
Walter is survived by his loving wife, Norma Swezey; daughter, Valerie Sanders and son-in-law, Donald Sanders; granddaughters, Kimberly Sanders, Tamara Sanders (Mike McGinnis) and Bree Sanders (Israel Hernandez); great grandchildren, Julian Dreyer-Sanders, Marisa Sanders, Juliette Sanders and Mila Hernandez-Sanders. He’s also survived by his sister, Janet Fletcher and brother-in-law, Tom Fletcher.
