

He was born on March 26, 1941 in Indianapolis. Tom graduated from Speedway High School in 1959. He served in the Air Force from 1959 to 1963. He was a member of the Indianapolis Police Department for 32 years and received Rookie of the Year in 1968. Tom also served as Commander of the Bomb Squad.
He was a proud, lifetime member and past President of the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #86, lifetime member and past President of the Retired Police Officers’ Association. He was also active in his community as a member of Speedway Masonic Lodge #500, Scottish Rite, Murat Shrine, past Vice Commander American Legion Post #56, International Association of Bomb Techs and Investigations, and an honorary lifetime member of the Murat Police Club. He was Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Professional Police Officers Credit Union.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Evelyn Bradley Cotton and Albert T. Cotton, Sr., and two brothers: Theron David and William Wesley.
He is survived by the love of his life and wife of 622 months, Janet Stout Cotton; son, James E. Cotton (Sally); stepsons, Larry G. Hodge (Kim), and Dan E. Hodge (Susan); Sister-in-law Barbara Cotton; 4 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; nieces and nephews; and a host of friends.

Family and friends will be received from 3PM to 7PM on Tuesday, February 2, 2021 at Crown Hill Funeral Home, 700 West 38th Street. Funeral services will be held at Crown Hill Funeral Home on Wednesday, February 3, 2021 at 11AM. Internment Washington Park East.
