He is survived by his wife Deanna, son Karl Anderson and daughter Lynne Furlin along with in-laws and 6 grandchildren. Andy has two brothers Robert and David.
In his high-school days, Andy was bitten by the aviation bug and soon soloed in a Piper J-3 Cub on skis in Northern Minnesota! Andy went on to serve in the US Air Force from 1955 through 1975 as a Technician and Supervisor, providing avionics and maintenance on Fighter aircraft (F-84, F-100, F-4 Phantom) and Gunship aircraft (AC-119G/K and AC-130A). He served throughout the world during his career, including Vietnam (1966-67). He was part of the original team selected to develop the AC-119 and AC-130 Gunship aircraft for Special Operations during the Vietnam War.
Andy and his family were stationed in the Netherlands from 1970 through 1974, where he once again delved into general aviation by obtaining his private pilot's license out of a small grass strip in Hilversum. He continued his love of aviation at his next duty station, Edwards Air Force base. Here he obtained his commercial pilots license while flying in a converted military trainer.
After retiring from the military, Andy joined the Cessna Aircraft Co., and from 1975 to 1984 worked as an Avionics Sales Engineer, providing in-flight multi-engine sales demonstrations and sales seminars. He also held positions as a Field Service Manager for a five-state area providing customer and dealer product support. He was also a District Manager for a two-state area with the responsibility for new aircraft sales and dealer recruitment.
Andy joined BF Goodrich Aerospace from 1984 until his retirement in 1997, where he was responsible for Military and Government Sales of Navigation equipment, Stormscope Lightning Detection systems, Traffic Alert and Collision Avoidance systems, and mechanical/solid state altitude indicators for both domestic and international market areas. He had the opportunity to work with major defense companies around the world and most notably the Presidential Helicopter Squadron (Marine One) and the FBI.
After retirement, Andy joined the YMCA, eventually becoming a lifeguard. Besides swimming and working out, he enjoyed the YMCA family and made many friends.
