Aron McGriff was born on April 22, 1933, in Valdosta, Georgia, to the late Aaron and Bessie McCoggle-McGriff. He attended Lowndes County Public Schools through the eighth grade. At an early age, Aron began working to help provide for his mother and younger siblings, demonstrating a strong sense of responsibility and devotion to family.
In 1950, Aron relocated to Indianapolis, Indiana, with his sister, Bessie Beverly. He arrived on a Saturday and attended church with her the following Sunday at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church. On that very day, Aron united with the church under the leadership of the late Rev. Judge I. Saunders.
Immediately after joining Shiloh, Aron became actively involved in ministry, serving faithfully on the Usher Board under the direction of Sis. Ella Grundy, grandmother of the late Oscar O. Grundy.
Shortly thereafter, Aron was drafted into the United States Army, where he served honorably from 1950 to 1953, including tours in the United States and Korea. Upon returning stateside, he was blessed to be stationed close enough to Indiana to continue attending Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church and to usher during Sunday morning services.
Aron was later ordained as a Deacon under the leadership of the late Pastor Clyde Virgil Jetter.
In 1955, Aron was introduced to Shirley, and the two were united in Holy Matrimony on December 23, 1955. Their loving union was blessed with four children: Sharon, Karen, Barbara, and Aaron Jr. On December 23, 2025, Aron and Shirley joyfully celebrated 70 years of marriage, surrounded by family and friends.
Following his honorable discharge from the U.S. Army, Aron was employed at General Motors, Allison Division, before establishing his own business, Aron’s Janitorial Service, which he faithfully operated for more than 50 years.
In his leisure time, Aron enjoyed playing cards, hunting, and fishing. Above all, his greatest loves were his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and his beloved wife, Shirley.
Aron lived a life rooted in faith, service, and devotion, remaining steadfast until God called him home. His legacy of love, strength, and unwavering faith in the Word of God, along with his deep love for his Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church and his Church Family, his memory will be cherished forever.
