Atlene Tolbert was born on February 2, 1938 to the late Eugene and Minnie Lou Scott in Ridley, TN. Atlene was 5th of 11 children born to this large and loving family. At an early age, the family relocated to Kentucky where Atlene earned her high school diploma from Rosewald High School. Sometime after her graduation, the family relocated to Indianapolis, Indiana.
Everyone who knew Atlene well, called her Lynn. Lynn worked hard to support her family. Throughout the course of her career, she worked primarily in the healthcare industry. Her employers included: Home United hospital, Women’s Hospital IU, Fountainview Nursing Home and the Laundry Tan and Connection. Lynn was a dedicated employee until she retired.
When Lynn was not working, she would be enjoying herself with family and friends. Everyone under-stood, if Lynn was around, they were going to have a good time. Lynn was the life of the party and when she entered the room, speaking to everyone with that unique voice, she would set the tone for the evening. She loved having a good time and she loved being with her family. One of her favorite things to do was playing cards. Lynn was an avid card player and she enjoyed playing Bidwiz, 3-5-9, Tonk, and Spades. Lynn was fun-loving but she was also a little feisty. And during a card game, you would experience the fun and the fiery. You were guaranteed lots of laughter, a good-time, and a little fussing and cussing. But, everyone knew this is just who Lynn was and she did it all out of love. Even through the course of her illness and the more challenging times of her life, Lynn’s personality would shine through. Lynn was a strong women, who knew what she wanted and would not compromise. She played hard and she loved harder.
On August 8, 1982, Lynn married her friend and loving partner, Jordan C. Tolbert (JC). Shortly after their marriage, they relocated to Mulga, Alabama were they lived for 15 years. Lynn was a devoted wife and they remained married until JC’s death in June, 2002.
