Ben was born in Clarksville, Mississippi on March 30, 1945, the eldest son of Ben Willie Cash Sr. and Sarah Wells Cash. Ben was the oldest of 7, brothers Charles, Bobby Joe, Jerome and sisters Catherine, Kim, and Donica. Ben was married to Barbara Lynn Case on October 21, 1986 in Niagara Falls, NY.
Ben grew up in Lansing Michigan and graduated from Lansing Eastern High School. He completed his Associates Degree at Lansing Community College before being drafted into the U.S. Army in 1966. He served one tour of duty in Viet Nam. After leaving the Army Ben continued his education at Michigan State University. Ben moved to Indianapolis in 1981 where he worked as a superstar salesman at Sears and as a supervisor for the Department of Children Services. For the last 20 years of his working life he was in human services, becoming a Licensed Addictions Counselor through the Behavioral Health and Human Services Licensing Board of the State of Indiana. He retired from the Veterans Administration in 2012. He was known as a “legend” by his colleagues and clients for his commitment, professionalism and compassion.
Ben’s passion was golf! He was a valued friend and competitor at Riverside Golf Course where he played on “Da Tour”. He was active in his community in other ways, coaching boys and girls youth sports leagues around the city. He was also active at Tech High School for over 10 years as an informal mentor to the friends of his children. “Mr. Cash” was popular with students, coaches and teachers. His encouragement to many of the athletes kept the Titans on their game for several seasons.
Ben is survived by his wife, Barbara and his daughters Lindsey (Sol) Stephens, Holyn Cash (Tim Jewell II), and son Jaylen Cash, all of Indianapolis. He loved his grandchildren and they will miss their “Pops”.
