PITTSBORO, Indiana — Bernard “Bud” M. Hileman III, age 50, passed away on Friday, July 18, 2025, at IU Health West Hospital in Avon, Indiana. Born in Lansing, Michigan, on September 8, 1974, to Bernard M. Hileman Jr. and Linda (Inwood) Hileman, Bud spent his early years in Michigan before graduating from Jefferson High School in Lafayette, Indiana.
In 1993, Bud answered the call to serve his country, enlisting in the U.S. Marine Corps. He attained the rank of Corporal while stationed at Camp Pendleton. Bud earned the National Defense Service Medal, Southwest Asia Service Medal, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, Rifle Expert qualification, and Joint Meritorious Unit Award. A proud member of India Co., 3/1 Regiment, he sailed aboard the USS Ogden during the withdrawal from Mogadishu, Somalia (1994–1995), and aboard the USS Cleveland during the Gulf War (1996).
Following his military service, Bud worked alongside his father at the family business, Craft Mechanical. He later earned an Associate’s Degree in Construction Technology from Ivy Tech College before joining Sheil Sexton in Indianapolis, where he served as a Senior Project Manager.
An avid traveler and nature enthusiast, Bud cherished motorcycle trips through National Parks and historical landmarks. His favorite destination was the Smoky Mountains in Gatlinburg, Tennessee, but his most unforgettable journey was to Alaska’s Denali and Glacier Bay. Bud loved hosting summer pool parties, and found joy cruising the highways in his Corvette, “Ruby,” with the wind in his hair.
Survived by his wife of nineteen years, Angela Hileman, and son, Jacob Hileman, both of Pittsboro, Indiana; sister Shelby Johnson (Eric) and niece Bree Johnson of Lafayette; brother Brock Hileman (Kirstie), nephew Raef, and niece Vivian of Lebanon; father-in-law Brian Champion; mother-in-law Betty Dexter (Steve); sister-in-law Heather Wolf; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
