Bertha L. Harris

Bertha, known to her children and grandchildren as Mama, attended IPS schools #4 and #87 as well as Crispus Attucks High School. Mama was employed at Wm H. Block's department store before being hired at the U.S. Postal Service. She began here career in 1966 at the U.S. Postal Service and retired in 1998 after 32 years of service.

Mama married Arthur Harris and together they had four children. Two sons, Michael D. and David A. Harris. Two daughters, Sherron L. Morris and Ethel E. Bundles. While this union did not last, their love for one another and their devotion to their children remained strong until his death.

Mama was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses on April 18, 1958 at the International Convention in New York City. She attended the Forest Manor Kingdom Hall for several years until transferring to Heather Hills until she fell asleep in death. She enjoyed going out in the field ministry with her best friend B.J. Spearman and several other members of her congregation.

Mama was famous for her delicious cooking. One of her joys was preparing meals for her family, friends, and coworkers. Mama also traveled extensively with her family. Some of her journeys included taking cruises, visiting Caribbean islands, and exploring the continental US. However, her greatest joy was spending time with her children and grandchildren with whom she shared a special bond.

Surrounded by her loving children, she opened her eyes and spoke one final time to her youngest daughter, "I want you to stop calling me." A few days later, our precious mother and grandmother fell asleep in death on September 12, 2019 after a lengthy illness. She was predeceased in death by her parents, her oldest son Michael and her great granddaughter Alecia Harris.

Mama is survived by her children, Sherron Morris, Ethel Bundles (Robert), and David Harris. Grandchildren; Derek Henderson, Keith Harris, Nicole Harris, Deanna Powers (Curtis). LaTonya Harrington, David Thomas, and Michael Harris. Eleven great grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren,
