

Collins in Wynne, Ar. Betty accepted Christ at an early age. On July 30, 1949, Betty married the
Love of her life, the late Joe Louis Horton. From this union came eight children who she loved
dearly.
Betty and her family moved to Marion, IN in 1951. After moving to Marion, IN Betty joined Calvary
Missionary Baptist Church where she faithfully served the Lord for over sixty years until GOD
called her home. Betty worked for Owens Illinois for many years until she retired.
Betty loved selling Avon; she sold Avon so much she became the Queen of Avon. Betty was a
member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Lady Ester #7 for over fifty years.
Betty loved her family and friends which they all loved her. Betty will be missed by all who knew
and loved her. Betty always looked forward to Holidays and family cookouts because she knew she
would be spending time with loved ones. Betty hobbies were crocheting blankets, putting puzzles
together, and going to bingo with her children and grandchildren where she was luckier than
them. When you stopped by to see her, you could always catch her watching a western or two.
Betty was preceded in death by her loving husband, Joe L. Horton, parents, Page and Dessie
Collins, siblings, Annie Mae Mayweather, Wesley, John Henry, Page Jr., Frank, Billy, Ben, Charles
Collins, granddaughter Shanita Jones, great-grandchildren; Davetta and Jamar Greer, great-great
grandchild Mateo Hernandez and all her Horton In-Laws.
Betty went home to be with the Lord on Friday March 14, 2025, in the comfort of her own home.
Betty leaves behind to cherish her memory: Sons; Odester (Kim) Horton, Louis Jr, and John
(Shanta) Horton all of Marion, IN; Daughters; Pricie (Horton) Jefferson of Indianapolis, IN, Staff
Sergeant JoAnn DeVall, Dessie Horton, Barbara (Leo Riley) Horton, Betty (Charles) White all of
Marion, IN; Grandchildren; Regina Horton, Stephanie (Kevin) Oliver, Dywayne (Alisha) Pierce,
Shawneta Horton, Collins (Cemisha) Horton, Denissa Horton, Marquel White, Kellen White, Kevi
Foard, John Broomfield, Christopher (Ciarra) Dunnigan, Kyle Dunnigan, Tyanna Horton; thirty-two
great-grandchildren, thirty great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
A visitation for Betty will be held Saturday, March 22, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Saint Paul Missionary Baptist Church, 1204 W 14th St, Marion, IN 46953, followed by a Celebration of Life at 12:00 PM. Burial will take place at Grant Memorial Park Cemetery, 1606 W 26th St, Marion, IN 46953.
