Bonnie Kay (Denney) Mikkelson, 75, lost her battle with colon cancer and went on to GLORY with the LORD on April 23, 2018. Bonnie was born October 26, 1942 to Oscar and Pansy Denney in rural Douglas County, MO. She graduated from High School in Seymour, MO (1959), Black Hills Teachers College in Spearfish, SD (1965) and Michigan State University (1978) with BS and MS degrees in education.
On June 3, 1962 Bonnie married 2LT David Mikkelson of Wakonda, SD. She faithfully supported David for 27 years of an adventurous Army life, living in Iran during the revolution, among other places. After retirement they've spent the past 29 years in Indianapolis, Indiana. She is survived by husband David, sons Chris and Jeremy (wife Elissa), granddaughters Julia, Olivia and Emma, all of Indianapolis, and brother James Denney of Ozark, MO.
Bonnie held a variety of teaching positions during the 16 move relocations with the Army, including Seymour High School (1970-71), Tehran American School, Tehran, Iran (1976-79) and Christian Center, Alexandria, VA (1984-87). Bonnie was involved in various community and political activities and was devoted to participation in and leading various church programs and ministries. She lovingly showered hospitality on family, friends and guests in their historic 'Whispering Winds' home and greatly enjoyed gardening, beekeeping, and basket-making among her other interests and hobbies. Bonnie indeed exemplified the biblical wife honored in Proverbs 31:10-31.
A CELEBRATION OF LIFE gathering will take place at The Caring Place church, 2901 N. Post Road, in Indianapolis at 3pm on Sunday afternoon, June 3. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in memory of Bonnie may be sent to THE HOPE CENTER FOR WOMEN, PO Box 29063, Indianapolis, IN, 46229.
