Byron Wayne Grounds, age 64, of Indianapolis, Indiana passed away January 7th, 2024. He was born March 27th, 1959 to Howard and Marjorie Grounds in Hagerstown, Maryland. He was a longtime East Side Indianapolis resident, attending Warren Central High School – class of 1977, and Indiana State University – class of 1981. He was a sales associate at HH Gregg for 36 years followed by 7 years at Lowe’s as an appliance specialist.
He was a staple of the East Side and was known and loved by many of his customers for his lifelong career in electronics and appliance sales. People loved coming to see what all he would have for sale in his yearly garage sales. He was “the guy” to see for any item with a cord. He was always first to help a neighbor or friend in need, from configuring their TV to shoveling their driveway. The sun shined brighter when he was around.
He devoted much of life to Old Bethel United Methodist Church and the Choir. He was an avid sports fan, especially the local teams. Music has always been an integral part of his life starting from the early years, playing in the school bands, and passing on his love of music to his sons.
Byron was preceded in death by his brother Howard Lee and sister Cora Mae. He is survived by his loving wife Mary (Morrison) Grounds and sons Zachary and Adam, as well as much loved extended family.
A memorial visitation for Byron will be held Monday, January 15, 2024 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at Feeney-Hornak Shadeland Mortuary, 1307 N Shadeland Ave, Indianapolis, Indiana 46219, followed by a memorial service at 1:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Old Bethel United Methodist Church Choir.
