The fun-filled three day camp experience is geared to children and teens, ages 7 through 17 who are grieving the death of a loved one. The camp will be held on Friday, August 24 through Sunday, August 26 at Jameson Camp in Indianapolis.
Campers will participate in various interactive activities including games, swimming, arts and crafts, campfire, group discussions, and outdoor adventures as a positive way to help share their loss and memorialize loved ones. Grief and bereavement professionals from sponsoring organizations direct and supervise the camp. All activities are designed to reduce feelings of isolation and improve the self-esteem of children and teens who share similar experiences in grief. Each camper is matched with a trained volunteer who stays with them during the weekend for support and supervision. While the camp environment is rustic, the cabins are modern and air-conditioned. A registered nurse will be at the camp at all times.
Camp Healing Tree is free for all campers, and registration is required with a $25 deposit to reserve attendance. Scholarships are available for families in need. This deposit is returned upon check-in, or families can donate it to help support Camp Healing Tree. Applications should be completed as soon as possible, or no later than August 1, as space is limited and a waiting list is expected. First time campers are given priority. Additional bereavement support services for grieving families are available through Brooke’s Place. Applications for camp are now available at www.brookesplace.org/camphealingtree
