He is survived by: his children Lynda Packard, Clay Packard, and Kelly (Packard) Allen (Chris); his “little purple haired wife”, Bobbie Packard and her daughter, Kari Fritz (Troy), his siblings Wayne Packard (Arlene), and IB Packard (Debbie), and has reunited with his siblings, Dr. Robert Packard and Inez (Packard) Walters, and his loving parents, Ira Bowman Packard and Ruby Packard; as well as many dearly beloved nieces and nephews.
Charles was born in Temple, Texas on December 24, 1938, during the era of dinosaurs, according to his brother Wayne. His childhood in Texas instilled a lifelong passion for football and baseball, and he loved to speak about it with anyone who would listen!
Charles was in the Air Force, attended Texas Tech University (walk-on football!), and enjoyed a long and successful career in sales. He was most proud of his beloved family, the business he and Bobbie started, the Howard Bowman Water Treatment Company, that they owned and operated for ten years, and the fictionalized family history book he wrote (and researched exhaustively), ‘The Crepe Myrtle’.
Charles and Bobbie first met at a swimming pool and bonded over their mutual appreciation for sports and their shared love of God within their church community and continued to share this throughout their long and happy marriage of 33 years.
The celebration of life is being held August 24, 2025, at Genesis Church, 13200 Old Meridian St., Carmel, IN, 46032. Visitation starts at 1:00pm, with service at 2:00pm. All friends and family are welcome. The family asks that any donations be made to Genesis Church at Genesischurch.me or a charity of their choosing instead of flowers or other gifts.
