

Clifton was born in Indianapolis, Indiana to Willie and Frances Johnson on May 8, 1959. He is one of eight children. He is preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, Joseph Johnson Sr. and Robert Johnson.
Clifton wed Kim (Williams) on June 17, 1989. They were married for thirty-three years, having two daughters.
A dedicated servant of the Lord, husband, father, brother, and friend, Clifton’s life was marked by servitude. He served his family, church, community, and friends. Upon graduating from Broad Ripple High School in 1977 he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, serving for three years. After being honorably discharged from the Marines, he pursued higher education, majoring in criminal justice at Indiana University Purdue University (IUPUI). He earned a Bachelor of Science in Public Affairs from IUPUI in 1985. After receiving his degree, Clifton was employed by the Marion County Sheriff’s Office where he worked for thirty-six years. He served the community as a road patrol deputy, detective, and sergeant. He also worked for the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) as a road patrol deputy and sergeant before retiring and returning to the Marion County Sheriff’s Office where he worked as a civil deputy.
Clifton was heavily involved at Westlane Christian Church, quietly helping those in need. Whether it was bringing communion to shut-ins, visiting people in the hospital, providing a listening ear, doing yardwork, or brightening the room with his humor, he was always thinking of others. Clifton also helped organize and start the Manna Ministries Food Pantry at Westlane.
He is survived by his wife, Kim Johnson; daughters, Kelsey Lyons (Russell), and Kyra Johnson; siblings, Ann Brown, James Johnson (Marsha), Charles Johnson (Angelique), Steven Johnson (Donna), Janice Parham (Chester). He also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.
His quiet, humble, kind spirit and infectious sense of humor touched many. He will be dearly missed.
