D. Michael “Mike” Gallagher passed away at home in Indianapolis, IN on June 1, 2024 at the age of 66. Mike was born in Indianapolis to the late John R. Gallagher and Beverly A. Gallagher Shroat and spent his lifetime in his hometown. After graduation from Lawrence Central H.S. in 1975, Mike earned the degree of Bachelor of Science in Computer Technology from Purdue University, Indianapolis. He spent his career working in various roles within the fields of computing and information technology. Most recently, he played a key role on a “Tiger Team”, supporting Elevance Health business and IT partners across the country. Mike truly loved his job and his Tiger teammates. It was a job that fit his personality as he was at his best when helping people. He was happiest being with his family and friends, and he never met a stranger. At the annual Holdaway Family Reunion, Mike enjoyed singing and playing guitar. He loved meeting folks at local pubs and listening to live bands. He was an avid fan of the Indy 500, NASCAR, and all Indianapolis sports teams. Mike will be missed beyond measure by his family and friends. He is survived by his mother, Beverly Shroat, his step-mother, Mary Jo Pickhardt Gallagher, sisters Deanna Carter (Roger), Michele Paynter (Christopher), and brothers John Gallagher, Joseph Gallagher (Julie), step-brother Michael Shroat, nephews Matthew Gallagher (his Godson), Andrew Gallagher, Anthony Paynter, nieces Maria Paynter and Claire Gallagher, his good friends, Todd Waymire, Ron Trippel, Jim Taelman, Dudley Witt, Kevin Callahan, and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Mike was preceded in death by his father, John, step-father, John Shroat, step-brother Gregory Shroat, and sister-in-law Carolyn Gallagher. A memorial mass will be held on Friday, June 7th, at 10:00 AM St. Jude Catholic Church in Indianapolis. Interment at Washington Park East Cemetery will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers or donations, hug your loved ones a little longer today in honor of Mike.
