

48, of Indianapolis, Indiana, formerly of Florissant, Missouri, passed away on September 24th after a relentless battle with brain cancer. David is survived by his loving, devoted wife, Laura (Burton), his mother Frances Schilling Marek, his siblings Denny Fogal, Connie Fogal Hellyer; Jim Fogal, Tim Fogal, Doug Fogal and Elizabeth Bertorello Hutson. He will be missed by his nephew Matt Stroud, many other nieces and nephews, and countless friends who consider him family. He is preceded in death by his father Thomas Alvin Bertorello and his grandmother Irene Bertorello.
Dave had an insatiable zest for life and made the world a better place. He was an active member of Sigma Phi Epsilon, a tireless volunteer with HOBY Indiana, and served in the Indianapolis Alumni Network for the University of Evansville. He was a double lung transplant recipient who spoke to countless schools on behalf of the Indiana Donor Network. Dave was a St. Louis Cardinals fanatic and rarely missed an opportunity to watch his beloved Cards.
With an unrivaled sense of humor, an infectious laugh and twinkling blue eyes, Dave never met a stranger. His generosity and commitment to service inspired thousands who carry on his legacy.
Friends and family will gather on Tuesday, September 29 for visitation from 4 – 8 at St. Pius X Catholic Church, Indianapolis, Indiana. Mass will be Wednesday, September 30 at 11 am at the church with visitation an hour before. In lieu of flowers memorials in David’s name may be made to Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership www.hoby.org, Little Red Door www.littlereddoor.org, Indiana Organ Procurement Organization www.iopo.org.
