
Deborah was educated in the Indianapolis Public School system - attending Woodrow Wilson School #75 and was a proud graduated from George Washington High School. After graduation Deborah matriculated Porter Business College earning certifications in Shorthand and Administrative Assistance. Deborah later enrolled in business courses at IUPUI, Indianapolis receiving various management certificates.
Deborah accepted Christ at the age of 8 at Good Samaritan Missionary Baptist Church where she was an active member. She was united in holy matrimony with George Saffold, Sr. in 1965 in Indianapolis, Indiana. Deborah was a devoted wife and proud mother of four, 3 daughters and 1 son.
Deborah was an ambitious, conscious, and strong employee. Prior to her 25-year tenure with the Indianapolis Housing Authority, where she worked as the Property Manager for various properties; Deborah’s employment included administrative roles with Ft. Benjamin Harrison Finance Center, Indianapolis Head Start, Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Second Christian Church, Good Samaritan Missionary Baptist Church, and Light of the World Christian Church. As her health began to fail, Deborah, retired from her role as the Property Manager for Jackson Peoples Senior Living Center.
Deborah was extremely creative with many talents. She loved working with her hands. Deborah’s hobbies included sewing, knitting, crocheting, and painting. She also enjoyed drawing, baking, and decorating. More than anything else, Deborah enjoyed being with her family, especially her children, Stephanie (Renee), Karen (Bea), George Jr. (Turkey), and Danielle (Danni).
Deborah was a founding member of the Jewels Social Club which consisted of a group of women sharing unique and binding sisterhoods and friend-ships spanning over five-decades.
After fighting the good fight of Faith, God called Deborah home to rest on July 4, 2023. She was preceded in death by her husband, George Saffold Sr., father, Herman Walker Sr., Mother, Costella Rasdall Walker Martin, brother, Herman Walker Jr., sister Patricia Sanders, grandsons, George Saffold III, and Martell Baxter. Cherishing Deborah’s memory are the joys of heart, four children, Stephanie Reed, Karen Walker, George Saffold, Jr. (Latonja), and Danielle Willis. Siblings, Sylvia Jefferson Dodds (Robert), Joseph Martin, step brother Patrice Abeuallah. Her most precious delights, grandchildren, Devin, LeAmber, Bryon, Timothy, Charles (Emery), Kameron, Logen, and Jailan - 16 great grandchildren. Deborah also leaves a multitude of family and loved ones treasuring her legacy.
A visitation for Deborah will be held Saturday, July 15, 2023 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Living Water Fellowship Church, 2902 East 46th Street, Indianapolis, IN 46205, followed by a celebration of life at 12:00 PM.
