Dennis Pasquale Suozzi was a skilled craftsman, advanced fisherman and a huge Cleveland Brown’s fan. Dennis Suozzi, 75, of Batavia, NY, died at home on August 4th.
Dennis was born in Batavia in 1949 to Pat and Theresa Suozzi. Dennis’s dad worked as a custodian in the school and Dennis often assisted his dad with custodial duties. Dennis’s mother, Theresa, ran a tight ship and could cook up an Italian dinner suited for a king.
Dennis graduated from Batavia High School and was drafted into the US Army. He served as an Army Ranger from 1969 to 1971. The Army Rangers are a lethal force in the US Army. Dennis himself was a mighty force. During his military service, Dennis received a purple heart.
Dennis married Margaret Ann Bush in 1976. They had three children together, Bryan Andrew, Brent Atwood and Crystal Colette. The children nicknamed him “pops” after Popeye the Sailor Man.
Dennis remarried in August 1985 to Beth Ann Heady. Dennis had finally met his match with Beth. The camaraderie between the two was epic. They really enjoyed teasing each other. They had one child, Robyn Nicole.
Though he loved fishing, football, and wood crafting, Dennis favorite role was that as a grandparent. He would light up when speaking of his grandchildren. Followed by the catchphrase “That kid cracks me up.” Dennis was grandpa to eight children. His grandchildren are Sutherlin Alexander, Joaquin Bryan, Jace Michael, Estella Luz, Zander Andrew, Savannah Annabella, Celeste Rose, Thatcher Atwood and Aurora June. Dennis gave himself the nickname of Grandpa Baba Looey after the character on Quick Drawl McGraw. He was also called “Papaw D”. The minute he walked through the door, one could hear his grandchildren scream, “Grandpa Baba Looey”, or “Papaw D” and accompanied by a stampede of footsteps.
Dennis will always be remembered for his passion for precious craftmanship work. Any piece Dennis constructed was top notch and done to perfection. Dennis took much joy in crafting custom pieces for his children. There was nothing Dennis couldn’t build. He took great pride in constructing custom bookshelves, wine racks, coffee tables, dressers, beds, changing tables, treasure chests, and much more. His pieces will stand the test of time from generation to generation.
Those who knew Dennis also understood his enthusiasm for the Cleveland Browns. If a Cleveland Browns game was on, you knew if they were winning or losing.
We couldn’t have asked for a better grandparent and will miss Dennis every day. His memory will live on in the hearts of all those who loved him.
Dennis was preceded in death by his son, Bryan Suozzi, his wife, Beth Suozzi, brothers, Pat Suozzi, Don Suozzi, Joe Suozzi, Ron Suozzi, Paul Suozzi and his siter Paula Suozzi. He is survived by his siblings Ralph (Maria) Suozzi of Spring Hill Florida, Jeff (Joann) Suozzi of Havertown Pennsylvania, Pamela (Thomas) Hartley of Batavia New York, his children, Brent (Theresa) Suozzi of Indianapolis, Indiana, Crystal (John) Whisler, Noblesville Indiana, Robyn (Chuck) Jeffrey of Lebanon, Indiana and his nine grandchildren.
A visitation for Dennis will be held Monday, August 12, 2024 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Crown Hill Funeral Home, 700 W. 38th St., Indianapolis, IN 46208, followed by a funeral service at 12:00 PM.
