I remember when Denny had polio in the early 50's and went to Nativity School with us.  But he never let it get him down.  He later moved into St. Columbkille's Parish but he kept in touch.  My condolences to his family.

Sharon and family, my name is Rick Hanten from Dubuque, Ia. and although I attended St. Columbkille School, Dennis was four years ahead of me and as a 5th. grader Denny was in high school and that was a large spread for continued association.  Denny lived on Bryant St. across from the McDermott's but he made it up onto State St. one day were a bunch of us kids were playing ball in a back yard.  The ball ended up in the neighbor's yard with the owner coming out of the house and taking our ball.  Denny, who was about 13 or 14 at the time, confronted this man and retrieved our ball.  With in a few years I never saw him again and heard that he moved away. That was almost 60 years ago but there wasn't a day that I passed their house on Bryant and didn't think of him.  I would have loved to have crossed paths with him once more.  His obituary photo .... yup, that's Denny.

Sharon - our condolences to you and your family on the loss of Dennis. He was a good friend and a loyal classmate. He loved going to the many Co-Duke class reunion telling funny stories about his classmates real or imagined. He loved growing up in Dubuque and staying connected to his  friends who lived  there. I will miss his renditions about the good old days in Dubuque. Our prayers are with you and your family.

Sharon and family, so sorry for the loss I know Mike and Mary have been visiting and like Mike I mourn the loss of a brother. He was a wonderful man and I won't forget the memories of his visits to me when I was attending Notre Dame and taking me out to dinner. Of course Denny not missing a bargain would take me to Golden Bear where all you can eat silver dollar pancakes were $1.99 on Tuesdays. He was my fifth brother. He is loved and missed!

Sharon and Family:  You are in my thoughts and prayers during this most difficult time.  I fondly recall Dennis' telephone calls to me to chat and getting together with both of you during your Dubuque visits.  When we immigrated to this country in December of 1956 we temporarily stayed with Elsie and Dennis (and their dog Tippie). I had to learn the language and I clearly remember Dennis, then a high schooler, teaching this third-grader how to read "....see spot Spot run..." He also introduced me to American toast sandwiches. I, too, shall miss him.

Dennis was a was a friend and a hs classmate.  We spent many hrs practicing and playing football for St Columbkilles.  You have my sympathy.

What a wonderful man and what a loss for you, Sharon and family.  Although we hadn't seen each other in a long time, our families were so connected from the time Ed married Elsie who was a dear friend of my mother's.  Through the years - when Denny was young (and so was I!), our families visited each other.  They were in Dubuque and we were in Tipton.  I probably never laughed as hard as when I was around Denny.  I still remember visiting when I was 13 -  my sister was working in Dubuque one summer and staying with them.  While Elsie and my sister were at work, Denny invited some of his friends over and they tried to teach me to play poker AFTER we had made a complete mess of Elsie's kitchen trying to make fudge - with an electric beater.  I seem to remember fudge specs on the ceiling and then eating it with a spoon, since it never got hard (and I never learned to play poker).  Through the years, my mom and Elsie kept in touch after Ed and my dad had died. And we used to stop in Indianapolis to visit with Sharon, Denny and family on our way to visit Mom in Florida.  Denny continued that communication after our moms were no longer with us, often calling me at work.  I loved those calls.  I told my sister:  "Now we won't have anyone to call us "Pester" and "Tweety" anymore.  Old childhood names that I hated (and Denny loved to taunt us with!!).  How I wish I could hear him tease us again.  Sharon and Family . . . I am so sorry for your loss. With love . . . Elaine
