Donnie received both his primary and secondary education from the Indianapolis Public Schools system. He attended William Watson Woolens #45; H. L. Harshman Middle School #101; and Arsenal Technical High School.
Donnie loved to play pool as a teenager. He was arguably the best pool player back in the days that played at the 22nd Street & Talbot Pool Hall. People would actually pay him to make shots for them. In addition, Donnie was a very skilled Disc Jockey. He loved to play music for parties, nightclubs and other live audiences. During his early adult life he worked as a DJ at the Blue Bird Lounge off 30th & Sherman and eventually became a partner in the ownership of the Lounge working alongside then owner Pat Henry.
Donnie was previously self-employed. He began a career in commercial driving during the early 1990's while working for local trucking companies as a truck dispatcher and dump truck driver. He became very knowledgeable of the Trucking Industry that he started his own business and named it D & P Trucking, after his son Donald Jr., and his daughter Portcia.
Donnie had forged close friendships with construction foremen, truck drivers and contractors throughout his tenure in this business. Much so, that D & P Trucking was almost always a presence on many construction sites in the state of Indiana, doing both private and public works projects. In the mid 2000's, Donnie's health began to decline and he ultimately retired in 2007.
In 2002 Donnie was baptized at First Christian Missionary Baptist Church under the pastorate of Dr. Damon S. Roach.
Donnie had a personality we will all remember and cherish. His deep voice and resounding laughter were easily recognized amongst the crowd. He was well known and liked by all class of people. Life was never boring around him. Donnie was utterly social but he also enjoyed the simplest things, like being around his family and having fun with a group of friends. Donnie was a member of the fraternal organization of Free and Accepted Masons. Donnie enjoyed watching all kinds of sports. He was a "die hard" New England Patriots fan- even after the Tom Brady divorce.
