

90, of Greenfield, departed this life Sunday, May 8, 2016. She was born March 27, 1926 in Indianapolis to the late Arthur Ray and Goldie Jane (Biddle) Bailey. She was a former longtime member of St. Philip Neri Catholic Church and attended Nativity Catholic Church. She was an accomplished cook and masterful seamstress. Dorthie taught her children and grandchildren the importance of always giving your best efforts. She always appreciated time with her grandchildren and loved to share her knowledge on how to cook and sew. In her later years, she was challenged with vision loss, but continued sewing at the same pace. She received many awards sewing, but more importantly, left a legacy with her second and third generations. She also loved raising boxers and gardening. Dorthie was a loving, dedicated and hospitable soul to all who knew her. She was preceded in death by her husband, Huxley M. Russell, Jr.; son, Dennis Russell; daughter, Deborah Russell Ensminger; granddaughter, PJ Ensminger Mosley; three brothers and one sister. She is survived by her daughters, Dennise (Dave) Sparks, Deanna (Leonard) Ruse and Donna (Blair) Laing; daughter-in-law, Elaine Russell; eight grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren. Visitation for Dorthie will be from 4 – 8 pm Tuesday, May 10th at Feeney-Hornak Shadeland Mortuary. Morning prayers will begin at 9:30 am at the mortuary followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in Nativity Catholic Church on Wednesday, May 11th. Interment follows at Acton Cemetery. Memorial contributions are suggested to Riley Children’s Hospital.
