If I were to describe Doug's character during life, it would read:
The Glory of Life is to love,
Not to be loved,
To give, not to get,
To serve, not to be served,
To be a strong hand in the dark to another
 in the time of need,
To be a cup of strength to any soul in a crisis of weakness,
This is to know The Glory of Life.

We have fond memories of Doug and Maureen and their time at Crossroads Christian Church. We are sorry to hear of Doug‘s passing.

Doug is an amazing man and knew the Lord many years.  Always had a smile and warm greeting.  He had friendships that lasted many years and traveled the US to visit and stay in touch even into his 80's.  It was felt that God protected him and Maureen on these many trips.  He knew and loved the Lord well...and God loved him also.

Doug and Maureen were my second mom and dad during high school in Goleta.  They had the hangout house and we sang and created music there.  I will always remember him with kindness and love.

It was a blessing to us to know Doug and Maureen when they worked in Bolivia. Always ready to share their love of Christ, always ready with a smile. Much Love from the Bain Family in Australia.

Well done good and faithful servant!  Our many visits to California and Goleta were filled with loving memories of our time with Doug & Maureen  swimming and catching up with the wonderful work in Ministry that was always a big part in their lives!  We had pillars of Faith in our cousins and they were always the very  Best example of Christ LOVE and what it was to be truly a Christian .  Their love was always felt when ever our families would join together be it on our vacations or here at home as they  made their many trips out west,  Even in their later years making their way about the country ministering to all of us they would visit.  Even in their 80's writing they many books which were so full of daily evangelism, just sharing the love of Jesus.  They've touch our lives as well as our children & grandchildren  lives that our time with Doug will always be treasured until we meet again,   Much Love to Maureen and family

Doug was such a kind man of God. I am eternally grateful that he and Maureen visited my Mom at her garden home in Indy several times during her final days with lung cancer. I will never forget the comfort and warmth they brought by their presence and prayers. Doug will be missed so much by all the lives he's touched. I hope he gets to say hi to Mom in heaven. She really appreciated him. What an amazing life he led. My condolences to Maureen and the rest of the family. May God bless and comfort you.

Doug and Maureen have been important in my life for many years.  First of all, they were one of the main reasons that we chose to join Living Faith Church in 1986.  Then Maureen was with me in the hospital the night my husband, Art, died.  A bond was formed that night that has never left! 
Doug and Maureen are the ultimate encouragers, and they have used that gift to help so many people.  They are the ones who convinced me to be the volunteer choir director at church, and those were incredibly wonderful years!!
I especially appreciate that they contacted me when a first grade teacher at the school in Bolivia had to leave before the end of the school year.  I decided to go and spent some of the most special weeks of my life!!
I have nothing but wonderful memories which I will cherish always.
Maureen - I know how much you will miss Doug.  Art has been gone for almost 35 years, and  I miss him every day!  
I look forward to that blessed heavenly reunion!!

Our family was so blessed to meet Maureen and Doug in Bolivia at a missionary kids school our kids attended for 1 year.  What an honor and joy to get to know Doug and Maureen.  The kindest, joy filled couple ready to serve in any way. We have continued to serve in Peru now 25 years and Doug and Maureen receive our pray letters and write us and pray for us as we have for them.  You are hero’s of the faith as you have continued to share Jesus where ever you go.  You have inspired my husband and in how you have served God all these years. We love you and are praying for you Maureen and your family.

We met Doug and Maureen sometime in 1993, a year after we were married when our Pastor, Dan Wilderman, a good friend of the Hovda's, took us to a Biblical Counseling Conference for a week in Santa Barbara. Doug and Maureen were assigned to us as prayer partners. We developed a close friendship and over the years prayed for them on their many Mission Trips when they asked and they prayed for us as we road our Motorcycle Ministering through Christian Motorcyclists Association riding to "Change the World One Heart at a Time." They even supported our once a year fundraiser, "Run for the Son." They made two trips to California in which we set time aside to spend with them hearing all God was doing through them. What true servants these two were as they shared the Love of Jesus. May Doug rest in Peace and enter into his reward, "good and faithful Servant."

I have many memories of Doug at Carachipampa Christian School.  His cheerful smile, servant heart, encouraging spirit, prayerful life and humble willingness to be of use in the school were examples to everyone - staff, students and parents.  Nothing was too much trouble, no task too menial, no challenge too difficult for him.  It was a privilege to have him on the staff team as he and Maureen participated in CCS life wholeheartedly.  Doug was always ready with a word of encouragement, a prayer, a helping hand.  I was also blessed when Doug and Maureen visited me at home in the UK so I was able to share my life with them away from Bolivia.  Doug will now have heard, "Well done, good and faithful servant" from the Lord he served for so many decades with such grace and patience.  He will be missed sorely by all who knew him.  

We always enjoyed having Doug and Maureen come to our small group.  They would tell us about the recent missionary trip they had just taken and it always amazed us to hear about the stories they told. The people that came to Christ and language was not a barrier. Maureen, Sharon and I send you our prayers that Christ will continue to give you strength to get you through this time.

Great commission ambassador.  Memories from Bolivia and the US must include Doug and Maureen.  Love, faithful, energized, servants.  Doug and I shared an office at Carachipampa Christian School.  Doug, the engineer who humbly served in the library - when he didn't have a dozen children hanging on any free space - smiling and loving.  Our son, a teenager at the time remembers Doug playing jazz at the SIM Guest House and singing with his bride.  Doug brought Paul from Venezuala to train musicians from churches of all denominations in our city.  Noone could leave Doug and Maureen without encountering the presence of our LORD in their space.  Always giving, always encouraging, always aiming his energy to shine the light of Christ.  My hero!!!
