

Earla Kay Bond, age 78, of Fort Wayne, passed away Sunday, May 18, 2025. Earla was born July 1, 1946 in Terre Haute, Indiana to the late Earl and Mary Kay (Wentworth) Hembree. She graduated from Howe High School in Indianapolis. Earla worked for IPS as a media assistant for many years. She was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Indianapolis.
Earla is survived by her son, Joseph (Patty) Bond; grandchildren, Audrey Hadden (Andrew), Eileen Bond and Thomas Bond (Munira); brother, Fred Hembree (Karen); and nephews, Steven Hembree (Tory, children Kendall, Knox) and Justin Hembree (Priyanka children Sonia, Aria, Krish). Earla was preceded in death by her husband, Damon Bond, and parents, Earl Hembree and Mary Kay Hembree, and grandson, Michael Bond.
Earla resided at St. Anne’s Home in Fort Wayne, In after the death of her husband, Damon. The family wishes to thank the staff, residents and Fr. Jack, for their support and care. Earla had many wonderful friends through the years, including the Eastern Star, Ladies shrine, and the Sigma Phi Gamma Intl. sorority. Earla’s best friend and roommate, Dana Bowman helped create the corner party room on the first floor at St. Anne’s and added much love and laughter to her life, as well as looking out for her best interests.
A visitation for Earla will be held on Tuesday, May 27, 2025 from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm at Feeney Hornak Shadeland Mortuary, 1307 N. Shadeland Ave. Indianapolis, IN 46219. A funeral service will immediately follow at 1:00 pm also at the mortuary. Earla will be laid to rest at Washington Park East Cemetery.
