Eddie Tidwell

He is preceded in in death by his parents Eddie and Laverne Tidwell., Sr.: His son Jermone A. Barnes, and sister Arniece Conner.

Eddie was a lifelong resident of Gary, Indiana. He attended Norton Elementary School, Froebel High School and Roosevelt High School. After high school he trained to be a culinary chef. He also received training through his employment with the city of Gary.

Eddie was a born-again Christian who faithfully and joyfully attended and served at Chief Corner Stone M.B. Church. Eddie was active in many things at Chief Corner Stone. He was a Faithful Deacon, Chairman of the Deacon Board, Board of Directors, Treasurer and Financial Secretary at various times. Deacon Eddie was the Sound Technician and served as a cook to provide delicious meals for the annual picnic. He was the best cook everyone enjoyed his cooking. Occasionally, when needed he would sing in the choir. He was very dependable in all areas of the church. His faithful service will be greatly missed.

Eddie was employed by the City of Gary for 37 years. He served under six mayoral administrations: Thomas V. Barnes, Scott L King, Dozier Allen, Jr., Rudy Clay, Karen Freedman-Wilson and Jerome Prince. He was an invaluable employee that held several positions while employed with the city. Eddie loved his job and he worked tirelessly for the City until he was no longer able due to his illness. He retired in 2020 as the building superintendent of the Genesis Convention Center.

Eddie was loved by many people; he never met a stranger. He was an avid fisherman, photographer, cook, sound technician, music lover, friend and care giver. His love and kindness will be remembered.

Eddie leaves to cherish his memory his siblings Simon Tidwell, Valerie D. (Donald) Hubbard, Aaron (Gen) Tidwell, Yolanda Davis, James E. (Ida) Tidwell, Andrea Tidwell (Hardy) Lee, Leslie (Angela) Tidwell and brother-in-law Randell Connor; loving nieces and nephews; two uncles: Walter Tidwell, and Rufus (Louise) Tidwell, one aunt Ada Austi; stepmother Earlene

Tidwell; a loving girlfriend Regina Crawford; the entire church family of Chief Corner Stone M.B. Church, as well as a host of cousins and friends.
